  • Using the scanlines as platforms is a pretty cool idea!

How does your submission fit the jam's theme?
You play as a girl trying to escape a VHS recording that is played in an old TV

Really awesome game with cool mechanics! Using the scan lines as platforms is a really inspired and unique way to incorporate the theme into your gameplay loop! Great job!

Really cool idea to use retro VHS scanlines as a mechanic. Penny is super cute lol. Congrats on your first game!

Hi! I played your game and wanted to share some feedback.

I liked the core mechanic with rewinding the tape. The levels that use it feel interesting and moderately challenging. The music also fits the style really well and creates a nice atmosphere.

The only downside for me is that there are not very many levels. I also felt like the game could use a bit more challenge, it would be cool if the screen line could crush the player.

Overall the game was very enjoyable to play. Thank you!

The time stop mechanic is really cool. If I had not read the tutorial and noticed the timer freezing during gameplay, I would not have understood what to do, so I am glad it was explained. The game is good, and I completed it, but the cassette moment in the third room is very difficult. I failed the jump about three times and always missed the cassette by just a little. The duck Easter eggs and the message saying that I did well were very pleasant to see.
In the last room I saw something yellow and jumped toward it without collecting all the cassettes, and it turned out to be the exit. It would really help to have a large progress bar at the top of the screen to understand how far I have gone and when the ending is coming.
Please check out and rate my game as well.^^

I couldn’t make it to the top within the 3 minute timer, I really tried several times but no success yet :3
Still, the game left a very good impression

What I liked
• The tutorial is clear and very well made
• Beautiful post processing and overall visual style
• Great music, it fits the atmosphere perfectly
• Level art and shaders look awesome

Suggestions
• It would help if the main character was a bit more noticeable at the start, the big VHS tape in the center pulls all attention to itself
• Highlighting the collectible tapes a little would be useful, they are quite hard to see (we had a similar issue in our jam game too) :3

Bugs I found
• The Web build has an Exit button, browsers can’t quit apps so clicking it crashes the game
• On macOS the Escape key closes the entire game instead of opening the pause menu

Overall, great job for a jam, stylish fun and memorable

Thanks for the feedback! as for the tapes, I did try to highlight the tapes by using a white outline around them, but seems like it's still a bit blended to the bg haha

The concept is nice, controls are a bit hard to get by at first, but cool experience nonetheless !

Developer

Haha, it is a bit wonky, but Im glad you enjoyed it!

I really liked the idea of this one, it reminded me of Braid I think it was. Cool idea to have the timeline tied into gameplay, I think if you were to turn this into a more full game, theres a lot you could do with dynamic level elements that change over time, maybe even letting the player skip through the timeline to specific points and stuff? It's a very cool idea!

ooo, thats an interesting idea, thank you for that!
