I thought this was really funny, and I really like the fact that you have a whole newspaper, even with culturally relevant hashtags! I really liked that the premise of the storywas that you were in a comedy show where you went to London in 1858. I also really enjoyed the waver joke where you had a whole block of text with ten in game seconds (more akin to five). The only thing is that I wish there could have been a few more reactions with the crowd, but even then, the reactions I got were great.
I really like the newspaper mechanics, it looks so good! The idea of reading the newspaper and pick the best line is genius! I understand that due to the word limit players can only go to one place and time, but I truly want to see other time and places if you can.
I loved the title screen; it was really cool. The waiver that I couldn’t possibly read in time was a hilarious start. I thought the newspaper design was amazing. The jokes were funny. My first run went super smoothly, and I got some cash for my efforts. My second run ran into quite a few errors in code. I thought going into the game was clever to add the bit about going to the same place again, flaming the writers. Other than the code errors, the concept is great, and the game was hilarious.
I love this game! The newspaper was so cool and I'm impressed by how professional it looks. It was hilariously written and I am honored to have achieved the funny room. I also named my character dipshit so it was really funny when it kept calling me dipshit. I feel like unless you take the time to read and commit the entire newspaper to memory, it's really hard to tell the right jokes, but it still definitely works because no matter which ending I got I laughed and enjoyed my experience. I feel like it's slightly useless to be able to refer to the newspaper before you even see your joke because I have no idea which event to look for. I think it might work better if you had the opportunity to look at it after knowing the joke's context. This could make the decision too easy though, so I'm not sure.
This was so funny! All of the setups and jokes were delightful and the newspaper was so well done! The variety of storylets made replay so much fun and the combination of fitting punchlines with setups and fitting things into the events like a puzzle made it super engaging and easy to get into a groove with. I did get softlocked in my second playthrough, though. There was one joke where every punchline but one sent me to a page of errors and in the next joke, every punchline sent me to that same page. Overall, though, super fun, the writing was fantastic, and the jokes were very funny!
Absolutely ingenious premise and gameplay. The newspaper was absolutely inspired and the challenge of comparing the paper with the options was a compelling gameplay loop. I got code errors on the second rotation that made me unable to progress, but I thought that the loop was a really smart and I like that it adds new storylets into the pool. I think the issue might have been that the storylets being don't refresh on the second cycle but that's just a guess. There were a few times where I couldn't find a good choice based on the newspaper but most of the time it made sense and was very funny. The waver with the timer was my favorite joke.
Positives: Waiver is very funny, the newspaper mechanic for relevancy of jokes is neat, also telling jokes is fun, unique language style, also enjoyed the ending image. Constructive: On a second playthrough it was a little difficult to tell what changed, I think it was the order the jokes were in.
Considering this was the 1 (one) game I tested last week, I'm really proud of how far it's gone since then! Still unfortunately suffers from the technical lack of a definitive ending, but only if you get the intended ending and go back to see the other Storylets that you missed. As for the writing itself, it was... a tad hit or miss. I think the middle english speak was funny to reference more modern jokes, but it didn't work for everything. Although there was more than enough times when it hit for me to truly complain.
-and I almost forgot to mention!!! I ADORE the extra effort the team put into making an image for the Newspaper! Last I saw it, it was jts a normal passage, so to see it visualized this way was really impressive!
The waiver made me laugh out loud! The objectives were very clear to the player without feeling like they were telling me what to do. Really love how you gave the player a newspaper to reference to and the humor was very well done, especially in the newspaper. I was also laughing out loud reading about how soldiers were resorting to battle cries. The humor in this game was so well written, I am so impressed how well your group managed to create such an engaging and fun experience for the player. It seemed as though each storylet related back to one of the articles in the newspaper and as a player, I was able to figure which joke would be the best fit without it being too obvious or too ambiguous #stinkycity.
My only suggestion would be to make it so the players cannot go back when choosing a joke as you did when making it so they cannot go back when leaving a passage.
