Wildcards Used

Lights Out

Use darkness/night as part of your game

Game Description
Be a firefly at night and flash your light to attract other fireflies. Flash close enough to score points and recharge your energy. Using your light will cause it to decay. This was my first game jam, and first officially finished project ever. I just started coding 6 months ago and I wanted to learn more about light in Godot and this was a perfect opportunity to test out a few new ideas using light/dark and modulation. The decaying light theme was fun to explore.

How does your game tie into the theme?
The player's light decays with use. Also used the night time wildcard theme.

I figured out pretty quickly what I needed to do without reading any instructions. Instincts or something... xdddd. It's very fun to play, and the idea of finding a partner in the dark is very good. I liked.

I was stoked to see those graphics in the opening menu.

This darkness theme was not to be taken lightly (I'll get my coat).

Congratulations on "finishing" a project. [OPINION] Unless it is coursework, software is a passion and never really finished. Free from breaking bugs is often enough.

Congratulations on your first game jam submission, it鈥檚 a really nice entry! It was a little hard to navigate, but after a while I think I got the hang of it. Like others have mentioned, I settled on a strategy pretty quick and just repeated the same thing over and over. If you keep working on it, evolving the gameplay over time would help a lot!

Great job!

I love the idea of making friends by timing lights. Could be nice to add some way to gain more control to feel a progression as you play because I landed on a strategy of find a large group of them and just blink when they blink. I didn鈥檛 feel incentivized to go out and explore. Great job on your first entry!

Thanks for the feedback! Adding complexity was definitely on my to do list but just ran out of time. I wanted to add more difficult bugs which would take a few flashes to "capture". Also adding more to the map like obstacles and maybe even hiding spots would help make things more interesting. Glad you played it and thanks for the ideas!

This is a really neat idea! I like how slippery the bug felt, added some difficulty and decision making. My only feedback is that it would've been nice for some mechanic or element to be included to progress the gameloop further, as the strategy becomes pretty solidified a couple levels in. But I had a ton of fun and I love the direction you took with it! Keep coding, this was an awesome first outing :D

Thanks for playing and appreciate your feedback!

I enjoyed this - congrats on your first game and your first GWJ submission! The controls were a bit tough and I got disoriented quite quickly in the pitch black, but overall it was still quite fun!

Thanks for the feedback! I definitely wanted to add more detail to the map to help with that but ran out of time (I noticed it too) OR had also considered something like a patterned background. I'll keep working on it because I think this could be a fun arcade-style game

Very cute! Could maybe use some additional mechanic for more excitement.

Yes, absolutely. Hoping to add updates in the future like little enemies to chase you or more difficult NPCs to catch. Maybe a daytime element too. Thanks for trying it!

lovely game! Controls did feel a bit floaty, but maybe that's the point? 馃
I like it!

Thanks for the feedback. I think a little more time play testing would have helped, I definitely rushed this one and only finished the mechanic the day before. Glad you enjoyed it though!
