I loved the prose here, and the hopeful note things ended on really felt touching. Dialogue could have used another pass, but was still really effective for me. I enjoyed it.
A short and hopeful story, great theme interpretation, loved your game:)
Thank you. I’m glad the hope came through! It was one of the hardest part to get right in a world that’s pretty bleak for these kids!
A tight group of kids that stays united during hardship is a highlight here combined with the evocative writing. I like how their different backgrounds and attitudes were conveyed & I also enjoyed the dice rolling mechanic, which feels rigged against the player. So is the 'game of life' rigged against our heroes of nothing.
Thank you, truly. It means a lot that the group’s dynamic and their different voices came through for you. And yeah, the dice are rigged, with some of them fixed. It's what allows them to show who they are, as Kit would say. And they will never stop, no matter what, because they have each other.
I like that the dice roll makes you feel like it's random, but I also feel like we are meant to fail on purpose (because there is just no way that in such circumstances a sudden miracle will happen. You are on your own. And now you gotta do what you gotta do to get through). Really loved the characters too!
The characters love you too! They love everyone that has love in their hearts and accept them for who they are!
My favourite thing about this was the strong sense of place & tone. I can't say the dialogue was very effective for me, as the prose itself was a bit all over the place. I enjoyed the sense of belonging to this group of tough kids, for whom this shit day doesn't seem particularly uncommon.
You are being kind saying the prose was just a bit all over the place... I basically stitched it together with twigs and twine! Glad the place and tone landed for you, though. And here’s hoping those kids eventually get off the streets and find the home they deserve.!
Short but effective, like a loving punch to the gut. I don't feel that the random elements added much, but I can see how they might have in a longer project. Great interpretation of the theme.
Hope the punch was
n'ttoo hard! The random elements indeed didn't add much, I was sprinting all the way to the final 5 minutes! Thank you for the kind words <3Real nice sense of place and character! Hang in there, folx!
Kit: We'll do more than hang in there! We'll thrive! Thank you hon!
I love the ambiance of the rain mixed with the background visual. It seems the dice hate me and I keep falling! I'm trying so hard to help Honey but the game just doesn't want me to!
That was a dirty trick on my part. Honey will have a coughing fit no matter what! (The plan was for a bigger game, but I had to scope down hard!) But since Honey lives in my mind, she asked me to tell you : "Oh, thanks, darling. Really. Just a shitty night and my lungs picked drama over breathing again. But I’m still here, see? Still upright. You did more than most people ever bother to. So… yeah. Thank you."
That's so funny! I thought I was cursed!
Why so cute though? <3
