Very original idea for a game, great visuals and massive scope of the game for just two days. Never would have thought that I would play horror version of a Czech fairy tail (got jumpscared more times than I would like to admit).
Sometimes the mirrors aren't visible (I suspect due to the shader), but I found that if you go like 5 meters past the last seen mirror and don't see another one, than you are definitely on the wrong path, so just return to the last mirror and try a different direction.
Didn't manage to finish the game but I really appreciate the atmosphere and the art style. The idea of looking for mirrors is great.
Nice atmosphere and interesting mechanics. It kept me engaged the whole time.
Okay I kept looking for mirrors, but the trail always ended and I didn’t know what else to do (even candle didn’t show any new ones) so I did not finish because I was just lost :D But the idea is really cool and visually looks really nice!
A pretty solid game. The mechanic of finding the mirrors was nice, and they were spaced just so - i never once got really lost.
I only saw the monster on the first night, and never after that.
The heartbeat sound in the ears always goes hard, and it went hard here as well.
Good job, didn't expect to see a horror game in this game jam, really liked it.
Great atmosphere. I really like the sound design.
The dithering does so much here! Loved it!
I loved the feel of this game and the scary atmosphere. I managed to finish it although i am usually not big on scary games and i really enjoyed the story and dialogues as well!
i loved that the atmosphere was more brothers-Grimm-like and not the-typical-Disney-reworked one:Ddd
(but i kept dying at the hands of that deer dude for like 5 minutes straight:Dd)
Thanks, I suspect you didnt turn of the candle, since the deer dude than can sense you. I hope you enjoyed it anyway :D
oh i must try it again! i never blew the candle out...:Dddd always died very quickly
I like the art style. It is like Playstaion1 graphics. The heartbeat sound effect made it scarier.
The ambient music has some microphone noise late into the loop (As if someone was touching the mic) and it was super creepy XD.
Why is Macecha a guy in a blanket....? (couldnt tell at first, but on the second run I walked up to her and it was crazy to realize)
Why do they have bones on the table... Maruška should haul ass from that place asap.
If you crawl into Holena's bed and shine on her, she won't wake up. (no I don't need to explain what I was doing in her bed. It was PLAYTESTING)
I played it twice and both times got lost - the mirrors seemed to stop a moment after climbing the hill.
I saw a monsterthingie in the woods, that was awesome. But it also signed the point where I stopped knowing where to go.
Having the light on seems to just speed up the heartbeat? Did not see any adverse effects...
The light allowed you to see the mirrors shine in the darkness. Those guided the path. But also attracted the beast, hence the heartbeat. Though the result wasnt 100% percent consistent :D.
And yes Holena not awaking is a case of a bad trigger, you can sneak to her if you try. We hoped nobody would notice and accidently wake her up correctly. :D
Btw Holena is also a guy with a towel on his head.
On a third run I managed to get over my skill issue and found the wise men. Great game. Tho maybe double check the texts - its a small issue, but in the conversations with the men, in every other sentence there was a typo XD
But that was a small issue. The atmosphere was incredible and you did an awesome job.
I really liked this one! The mirror mechanic fit the vibe of a Czech fairytale really well, and it's great that you leaned into how scary these tales can be. I actually finished the game without bumping into any creature at all, so I guess cutscene Maruška was just being dramatic:D
Nice work on the horror aspect, I was stressed out because of the low visibility and sound effects which made for a very unnerving atmosphere. I also liked how the heartbeat sound made the candle mechanic so intuitive, plus the overall visuals of the game were pleasant.
Thanks, glad you liked it. There was a beast in the woods, but I guess it wasnt that consistent and probably wandered far away.
After wondering in the forest for 10 minutes I successfully found my way back to the starting cabin. 10/10
Great vibes all around.
