Game description
Aural is a 2D dungeon crawler made in 30 days for Game Off 2025 gamejam.

Theme interpretation
I implemented the theme by making sound the core of combat — every weapon fires musical waves, turning music itself into the player’s main offensive tool.

Remarkable! The completeness of the game is astonishing, I really like the art and the music!

Loved the art style of this game and I thought that the gameplay was fairly engaging throughout. I liked the idea of getting new weapons and when I unlocked the lightning guitar, that was a really cool moment. You also had a very polished presentation of the game and the UI was very intuitive. Something that I would love to see more of is the types of weapons. I loved the creativity of using instruments as weapons but it may be cool if the weapons had different effects - like if the drum was particularly good at clearing out all the obstacles in the room. I also felt like the enemy AI was very easy to avoid by running in circles around the room. An idea that I just had about potentially fixing this issue without too much extra coding (because I know how hard coding AIs can be) is a stationary laser tower that fires beams at you. I think this may provide the added challenge because even if you use a simple look_at() function to shoot the beam and then have a quick timer before firing, the beam would naturally be more accurate when the player is closer to the tower than when further away. Just some quick ideas though.

Cheers and good luck in the game jam!

Thanks so much for playing and for the feedback! Your idea is a great way to add more challenge to the rooms, and I might actually try adding it once the jam ends. Appreciate you taking the time to share your thoughts! :)

Love it. Got the electric guitar half way through and it felt so satisfying to machine gun down everybody. Polish this game off with more organic shaped rooms, some character progression, more zones etc… and you have a steam viable indie game imo. Nice work

Very nice game with a lot of potetial replayability, I feel it was lacking a bit in the background music department though, the ambient noise made me wish there were some banger tunes playing while in  battle. I also feel it was lacking a bit in the enemy variety, since I managed to get past all of them with some simple strafing and running around them in circles, maybe some unique enemies for each biome could help out a lot. Besides that, it's got a clean and enjoyable artsyle and a cute musical weapon gimmick, could probably become a fun roguelike if expanded upon. Hope to see more from it!

This is such a pretty game! What a fun vibe. The levels are a little too small to actively move around, maybe that's part of the challenge? Either way, I love this.

Developer

Thanks so much for playing! Really happy you enjoyed the vibe and the look of the game. The small levels are part experiment, part chaos, but I might tweak them after the jam. Appreciate the kind words!

Really fun gameplay and love the art style! Also love the concept of different instruments as weapons, would be awesome if the game had a soundtrack and the instruments played in tune to the music! Love the silly sounds as you shoot/play though, your game has a lot of character:)

Thanks for playing the game! I’m really glad you enjoyed the art style. And your idea about having the instruments play a tune is actually really cool!
