Love this game! The art is really cool, I like that you made it yourself! The crabs did move through the blocks, maybe unintended? I also love the transition at the end, it's pretty fun. It first wasn't clear what to do to me, I thought you had to avoid the crabs at first but perhaps I need to read better. It's late for me, I need to sleep ;)
The interpretation of the 'waves' theme is slightly vague to me, of course you could say 'waves -> beach' but yeah...
Anyways, great game!
Thanks for playing my game! I did not know the craps could move through the blocks. This should not happen. Note that the sea star and the fish are not blocking the path of the crabs. Yes, the wave theme could have been better used (it appears also in the music).
Really fun game!
Music is fitting and I like the visuals.
It was a bit confusing that the star blocks me but doesn't block the crab, but managed to get passed it. Would love to see more levels !
Very good entry
Thanks! I guess it could have been explained more clearly that the sea star and the fish are not blocking the crabs.
Cute little game! Though I did feel a little bad for the crabs lol
The reverse Pac-Man gameplay was a cool idea, I enjoyed boxing the crabs in to catch them. There's a ton of room for new levels, I think with the base gameplay you've got now it could definitely be expanded into some solid puzzles- I just wish there was more there now! I've seen in other comments that you know about crabs passing through the objects too, so I won't harp on about that as I managed to beat the game nonetheless, so I do see the strategy you were hoping for players to use.
Graphics were cute, all the little characters and objects fit in well together and made for a really charming playthrough- I especially loved the little "chomp" effect when catching a crab :) Audio fit nicely too, though a little effect when chomping the crabs would be cute. I did encounter a bit of screen tearing every so often, but I believe that's more of an engine issue than something on your end, so I'm not considering that a valid criticism on my part.
For a simple game for a jam this does the trick! Cute, and I like the direction of the gameplay :))
Great to get feed-back! It is true the game is a sort of reversed Pac-Man, even if that was not the original plan. Sorry there is only one puzzle, I was too busy working etc. The chomp should have a SFx for sure. The screen tearing can be easily be fixed.
I thought the crabs were going to eat me hahah.
Interesting concept!
I noticed the crabs would teleport through the obstacles like fish and stars to get away from the player, so I never caught them.
I recommend making the player a bit faster.
The art was charming, I could see this working well as a turn based puzzle game too!
Yes, the crab can pass both the fish and the star. See explanaition below. To catch the crab you need to box it in a one way passage (cul de sac).
Okay gotcha. I was able to chomp them, and then the game went to a white screen. It was just the one level, I'm guessing?
Yes, only one level.
Thanks! The crab is avoiding the star but the top priority is to avoid the octopus.
Nice little game ¦3
I like the music and simplistic style, they nicely fit together.
It would be cool to see more levels!
Thanks, it is NES style. More levels are coming!
I like the music! Also pretty interesting mechanic of having to trap the crabs before you can eat them.
cool
I'VE BEEN PREPARED FOR HORROR ALREADY
That's cute! Soundtrack is fitting so well for this kind of game.
But it gotta ask - is this some kind of debug build? because it seems like the collission shapes or something are visible to player and this might not be intended.
Happy you like the sound track. Yes, if you press D you will see the collision shapes. Sorry for not turning this off.
I love the music in the game. The dancing palms stole the show :) Also I was bit surprised with the blue crab. Sneaky bastard was running away!
Dunno if this is intentional but there wws no way to block his path.
To make it more polished I missed few things like octopus doing flipX when changing direction.
Catching the crabs can be tricky but it is possible. The blue crab will always turn right and the left crab will always turn left - but only if they are not close to the octopus, fish or sea star. Hope this helps.
Sorry I catched them both actually. Blue one gave me some running but I did it.
hm so i got a case where there was a fish that was supposed to I think block his movement (like it blocked mine) and blue crab just went through it.
Great job catching both the crabs!
Yes, the crabs can run over the fish and the sea star. They have three goals listed in priority order:
1) Avoid the octopus: Long distance (100 pixels)
2) Avoid the sea star: Short distance (50 pixels)
3) Approach the fish: Short distance (50 pixels)
There is no random component in the crab motion.
Ah! Thanks
