Game description
RESONATE! is a fast-paced action game where you create powerful chain reactions by linking enemies of the same color. Master the resonance system to survive waves of diverse enemies, each with unique behaviors. Use strategic color-switching and explosive Overload Mode to clear the battlefield and achieve high scores.

Key Features:
• Color-matching resonance mechanics with HotOrange, Magenta, and Cyan
• Multiple enemy types: Basic Nodes, Cluster Drones, Flickers, Hunters, and Chargers
• Chain destruction system for massive combos
• Overload Mode special ability for devastating attacks
• Mouse-only controls for accessibility
• Immersive 3D spatial audio system

Test your reflexes and strategy in this unique resonance-powered experience!

Theme interpretation
RESONATE! interprets the "wave" theme through the concept of resonant waves - the phenomenon where waves of matching frequencies amplify each other to create powerful effects.

The wave theme manifests throughout the game in several ways. The core gameplay represents wave interference patterns where the player's frequency (selected color) must match an enemy's frequency to create constructive interference. This creates resonant waves that build up and cause destruction through harmonic amplification.

The linking system visualizes how resonant waves travel between connected enemies of the same frequency. Each link represents a wave propagating through the battlefield, and when the resonance is triggered, the accumulated wave energy destroys all connected targets.

Cluster Drones demonstrate wave cascade effects - when destroyed by resonance, they create expanding wave pulses that affect nearby enemies, mimicking how resonant waves can trigger chain reactions in physical systems.

The Overload Mode represents a massive wave surge, building up wave energy over time until it reaches critical amplitude, then releasing it all at once to create destructive interference with all active resonant connections.

The game transforms the physics of wave resonance into an intuitive action experience, where players must tune their frequency to create constructive wave interference and harness the destructive power of perfectly synchronized waves.

I like your idea, and you've dressed it up nicely in the game. The sounds and atmosphere feel like they're coming from the future, which is quite fun.

I really liked the art style that you were going for in this game. I also thought that the music fit very well with the fast paced action that you had for gameplay. However, I was a bit confused on how to create combos as well as use the overload mode. I could be wrong about this, but I think that your idea for the combat was to get as many of the same colored balls as close to you as possible and then kill them all at once. I might add an attracting force to the player character to pull the balls of the same color to you, then when you touch them, it kills them. Then the only balls that would do damage are the ones of a different color. This feels a bit more intuitive to me but I could very easily be missing something. Keep up the good work! I like the vision for the game and lmk if I'm missing something about the combo-ing thing.

Thanks so much for playing my game, really glad you enjoyed the art style and music.

About the combo confusion, the tutorial could be way clearer 😅. The core mechanic is actually clicking to cycle through colors (Orange → Magenta → Cyan), then auto-linking enemies of your current color when you get close. Overload Mode activates with Spacebar when the meter fills up.

Your attraction idea is brilliant though! That would definitely make the linking feel more intuitive and satisfying. I might experiment with that in a post-jam update - having same-color enemies get pulled toward you would solve the clarity issues.

I had trouble figuring it out tbh, but it's a really cool and unique game and idea! I would love if the description had more info about how to play or a tutorial, but since it's a game jam the latter would be a lot to do haha - anyways, it's mostly a me problem I guess! but would be nice to be more accessible for different types of gamers

I will make sure to add a tutorial next time . Thanks for playing my game :D
