I liked the first 3 times I made the tiny little bitty cutie rabbit happy, then I got borrrred, give me some variation 😭😭!!!!

Now, let's be serious 🧐 That is some quality, cute art, and a great amount of polish. I just wish you had made the gameplay more interesting (like some stakes: e.g. he's mad too long => a snake EATS him), so I could enjoy it longer

DeveloperSubmitted

Yeah, totally fair. I will add some pressure (a timer ... although I like the snake idea haha) and more creatures =)

Very cute! I really like the audio and visuals, and always love a PICO-8 game. I really think it just needs a little polish! Some sort of timer as well as a more interactive visual for the waves (some of them were just a guessing game for a little bit) I think will go really really far!

DeveloperSubmitted

Thank you! I def. have enough room in the UI for a wave display and a timer, so that's def. doable =)

Very cute, love a pico-8 vibe. Definitely would have liked to have some sort of pressure (timer or otherwise) to add a sense of urgency when I'm fiddling with the waveforms, but I enjoyed it plenty anyways! Thanks for making this!

DeveloperSubmitted

Thank you! A timer is definitely needed, I'll put one in the next version =)

I like the graphics and audio used! Really makes it feel like an arcade game. Though, I didn't know how to use the waveforms as a clue so I just brute forced a lot of the solutions, a visual to show the current waveform being made could help a lot. Also, giving the player a time limit would help make the game a bit more exciting. But overall it's still an enjoyable experience as is!

Those are excellent suggestions, and I'm glad you enjoyed this in its rough form =)

I really liked the game and theme interpretation but I honestly didn't know what I was doing other than making the character have "joy" than moving onto the next character. Clever use of mechanics just needs more game depth. Love pixel art and cool to see PICO being used. Well done.

DeveloperSubmitted

You're right no all counts, I grew impatient with PICO-8 before adding more of an actual "game" component, e.g. more creatures to collect with growing difficulty, time restrictions, a little store, etc. I'm playing with Phaser now and may take a stab at Construct, so there's a good chance I'll port this to one of them and then I can really flesh it out =)

I just love PICO-8, literally my favorite tool when it comes to making games. It's such a funny / cute little idea, had a few minutes fan with it. Keep up with the good work!

DeveloperSubmitted

Thank you! I feel like I need to learn a lot more about game design in general before I can go back to PICO-8 minimalism ... but I do like the platform, just a matter of me learning complexity before I can properly embrace simplicity=)

I ran into the keyboard control issue at the start, which was frustrating.  Also, please consider making the bunny less sad!

DeveloperSubmitted

I'm considering a switch to Phase which would make this more reliable keyboard-wise I think. Thanks for playing! =)

Cute game! Sometimes I felt that I was having to guess around with the wave setting, it could be a bit more refined to make the gameplay more engaging, but I like the theme interpretation, and the characters are cute!

DeveloperSubmitted

I'm glad you like the art, thank you! If I port this idea to a more flexible platform I'll def. add more variety to the creature(s) and a more interactive wave matching process =)

Review:

I liked the characted design, loved it when it cries xD and when it experiences joy.

Suggested Improvements

  • I feel the wave itself can be center of attention here, I understand that the frequency and amplitude matching is a part of getting the wave to correspond to the actual feel, but maybe it can use a different naming to go with the appeal of the game.
DeveloperSubmitted

Thank you! I found the PICO platform a little too limiting so I switched my submission for another Phaser game, but I may come back to this one later and port it to a platform that gives me a little more flexibility so I can address your recommendations =)
