- This was such a heartwarming story about depression + coping with grief/guilt. The puzzles were a really nice touch of interactivity, and I think they were nicely incorporated into the story! What would've really helped elevate this entry would've been to add more movement of the sprites (or even shaking of the camera when Lilly screamed at various points!), lighting (or coloring!) to the scenes to reflect Lilly's mental state, and how it was changing as the story progressed. Lastly, a sepia tone over the flashbacks with Basil would've helped differentiate the past with the present.
- Disclaimer: I only played one route of this game. I love how the story gently brings up dark topics like depression, self-harm, and addiction, and how these issues can quietly affect the people around us. I also enjoyed the bits of literary analysis. The simple puzzles were a nice variation and still felt well connected to the narration. I do wish the closure had been more fleshed out, as it felt a bit quick for Lily to forgive herself (which is a good thing, but I would’ve loved a bit more drama there haha). Overall, this is a well-made, cozy VN with a strong message about mental health.
How does this project relate to the jam theme? (Judge Question)
What kills you slowly? Well, many things. But depression, grief, and addiction come to mind
