Game description
This is a simulation of working a minimum wage job at a grocery store. The goal is to last as long as possible before customers get too upset, the "total happiness" is supposed to be a high score. There is a help screen that is woefully underbaked if you click on the ? button, overall I know this wasn't the best but I learned a lot and I'm glad I was able to put something out there!
CONTROLS:
-Use the mouse to click on the hand to WAVE to keep customers happy, or click on the broom or basket to switch to stocking mode or sweeping mode.
-Click on the face to drag it into a smile, if you're frowning guests will be upset!
-WASD controls to run around the map
-hold SPACE while at the cash register to start the check-out minigame and to be able to check people out
GAMEPLAY GOALS:
Your goal is to last as long as possible, and to get as high of a happiness score as possible at the end of the day (You will always be fired, this is an endless style game where it's just last as long as possible). Just make sure to keep smiling, stock the shelves, sweep up trash, and make sure to WAVE at guests whenever you can!
Theme interpretation
The initial idea was to focus on "waving" as the act of waving to people which eventually evolved into waving to customers at a supermarket. I wanted to include waving as much as possible, but I was really struggling with understanding how to implement pathing for guests and a lot of things like that so this project had to be toned down heavily from the initial idea I had.

This was a great idea lmao gave up walking around sweeping and stocking when customers queue were getting long at checkout. At that point, I realized this game was a retail worker's cry for help. 10/10
Haha thank you! It's definitely the vibe I was trying to give off, especially with the sound effects and visuals I worked out. Thanks for trying it out!
Great game. The idea is really smart and the game have a level of satire that I enjoyed a lot (having to forcefully smile with a mouse drag with that sound effect was funny as hell and so sad at the same time..). BTW, music and sound effects were on point! Amazing work!!
Thank you! I had my partner help with the sound effects, they turned out great in my opinion. I really wanted to have this "uncanny valley" feeling to it that Im happy came through.
The multitasking was really fun in this game, having to wave my hand to do stuff and drag my face to smile was pretty funny and the cashier job was simple but surprisingly fun! It really does get tough! I was able to get a grip of the controls eventually but an in-game tutorial would go a long way. Some extra polish with some better sprites for the store would definitely put this game a notch above the rest! Love it!
Thank you so much! I definitely think if I had an extra week to work on this I could have gotten some polish and help screens in a better place, and most of the mart itself outside of the characters were default assets and I definitely wanted to make my own. Thanks for giving me feedback, I appreciate it!
I did not understood how to play the game, so I was fired in the first day. Maybe you could some clues in the scene or some texts explaining the actions. Waving is an awesome interpretation that I did not considered!
I get that honestly, I did add a help page that you can click the ? on the UI to get to, but this probably could have been explained better. This project definitely was a learning experience for me, I still don't think I really understand pathfinding algorithms but overall I'm glad I tried to get something out haha
I love the style of the face!
Haha thank you! I thought it would be really funny to just take different pictures and post them together as a collage. Originally I wanted the text to also work this way, but I didn't start working on the game until the 15th and with thanksgiving + full time job I just didn't have the time to work on this like I wanted to
