Game description
A roguelike deckbuilder autobattler with inspiration taken from synth-wave, cyberpunk, the 80's and, of course, waves.
Theme interpretation
Our retro vaporWAVE themed game is a roguelike deckbuilder autobattler where you fight wave after wave of enemies by playing your cards from left to right (it looks like a wave).
When you defeat enemies you collect ₩avies that can be used to buy more cards!
The main character is wave themed and rides a wave motorbike.
(Also some of the cards are wave themed).

Cool and addictive game, I feel like some extra effects for certain cards would be pretty cool, just to undestand better what they do
This was really fun! I didn't expect it to be this intuitive and fun to play. I like the replayability too, very solid game overall!
Thanks, glad you liked it!
Very interesting take on a deckbuilder. Loved the idea! I know that animations are not central for this kind of game but I believe having more animations would strongly benefit this game. Great work!
Thanks!
Meloness, our artist, had their hands full with just the cards and enemies as is but if there ever was a fleshed out version of this game I would've loved to have card play effects and proper enemy animations. The tween animations you see were more of a compromise knowing that we wouldn't have the time for actual animations.
I really like this game's art style and the gameplay was solid. I don't play rougelikes very much but I found this to be pretty enjoyable and chill. I really liked the one money card where you have to strategically place it in your hand to kill the enemy on time. Good work!
Thanks for the kind words!
I was pretty happy with where the money generation cards ended up, in play-testing they had the bad habit of either being useless or the best thing you could be doing early on.
I really like the concept; it's very addictive. At first, I found the pace a bit slow and had trouble understanding how to pick a new card, so I just pressed 'skip' without realizing, which meant I lost an opportunity for a new ability xD. Overall, very good work!
Thanks for the review!
We tried to make the earlier waves slow enough that you had some time to figure out what you were doing while also not being too slow for players who already had experience. I think in a perfect world we would've had way to speed up the game play loop but we couldn't quite fit that in within the month.
We probably could've made it clearer that you had to drag the cards to select them, I guess it's good to know for the future.
Great job! I love the neon visuals and those soundtracks are bangers!
The gameplay feels good though I suck it XD didn't beat the first spider boss
The only thing that's missing is decent death animation for enemies. Having a chunky hit animation they just disappear on death
Thanks, glad you liked it!
We probably did over balance the enemies a little, they're beatable but you need to find a way to boost your damage to make it past the spiders.
Death animations would've been nice, I guess we kinda just forgot about them while trying to make the rest of the game work. 😅
seems like a fun concept! i really like the graphics and the audio works well. I was having trouble clicking on the cards to buy them, so I might have been missing something. I really like the interpretation of the theme, and the execution. nice job!
Thanks very much!
You have to click and drag the cards into your hand to buy them, it can be a little confusing and we probably should have addressed that better.
I really appreciate the feedback, thank you!
I liked how the game fit the theme! I'm impressed with the variety of cards and enemies. It would be cool to upgrade an existing card instead of having to sell it.
Thanks for the feedback! That's a great idea!
Thanks! We did originally discuss upgradable cards but like a lot of ideas had to cut them due to time constraints.
Makes sense! I felt the game was very fleshed out with a lot of replayability.
