Really cool concept. Even though its only the first stage, it still stands on its own and is fun to play!

Fun idea! I found the sword wielding character pretty underpowered compared to the ranged ones, but I had lots of fun! well done!

Very cool concept! Even if it's unfinished, what is there felt pretty polished although I kinda sucked at the combat :D  Really liked the idea of having to fight my previous characters and using them to level up.

"Echoes of the Infinite Recursor" is an amazing name btw!

This is super ambitious, and really fun to play! I think you're being a bit harsh on yourself in the description, because this has a lot of potential, the bits that are done work really well and I can definitely see the vision of how it all comes together. Good work~

very nicely done, longest bast battle of the jam so far! beautiful art and sound, gameplay is simple and easy, but still a fun challenge. took me a minute to gather I could kill the flies for hearts but i was super pleased when i did! nice work!

It's a pity Phase 2 is broken, it's quite fun

I honestly really like the ideas you had with this game! Despite it just being the first bit, it was still rather enjoyable,, great work!

The way this game was *meant* to work is like this:

You pick a randomly generated character from among the 6 options.

You attempt to fight the boss - in Phase 1 it's a larva given the name: Resh'Lar, She Who Molts the First Shell

Say you die in Phase 1, you go back and pick a new character, and this time, before the boss hatches, you have to fight your previous character's ghost! It has the same weapon and stats as when it died! And when you defeat it, you gain levels equal to the level it was when it died! This means better stats and maybe more health!

You die against the boss again, and now BOTH ghosts have to be defeated to move on...

Now, say you beat the first phase, the boss will crawl away and cocoon itself... and when it hatches it has changed forms to Reth'kira, the Tooth which Cuts the Veil

Any time you die during this phase, your ghost will appear AFTER the first phase and before this phase. Yes, it's harder, BUT defeating your predecessors' ghosts also imbue you with more power!

...and finally, phase 3, the boss becomes the Goddess Ruun-skei’ra, the End of Time Incarnate!

I haven't decided if I'm going to try to fix this game after the jam is over or not... I'm so frustrated with it.

BUT you should 1000% go check out the soundtrack that was made for the game! Laz the Composer did some great work and you shouldn't let my horrible game prevent you from at least checking it out: https://lazarusrichardson.bandcamp.com/album/echoes-of-the-infinite-recursor

The game description says that this was your biggest game jam disappointment ever but i found this game really enjoyable, the idea is creative and it is fun to play.

cool concept. there was a bug the first time: killed first wave boss without dying. Died phase 2. Picked new guy. Never saw ghost. I cleared the save and the second try without reloading page I got the ghost but only if i died before the first phase? Also phase 2 invisible almost invis boxes were not fair in that fight. should add a visual sprite for those projectile spinning things
besides that this was a cool mechanic. I wished the players honestly helped kill the boss little dmg. but maybe like a funny quip where if the boss killed htem they dropped like xp for the lvl up. but like replayed the entire fight they did. Maybe record teh coordinates this way. Kinda allows for speedy runs or something idk. I like the mechanic overall though and the music was great.

Fun game with great music and sound, shame the other boss phases aren't working I would have liked to play more!
