Game description
Pray to Lucifer is a top-down single-player wave-shooter game with elements of tower defense, where the player represents a savior who carries “the light” to liberate the land from darkness. His goal is to kill all shadow enemies to liberate the land. In his quest, he will build and make use of ‘densoul’ (mirrors, lenses, …), which apply various effects to the beam and its trajectory. It blends wave-shooting and monster enemies similar to Vampire Survivor, with true physics behind optics

Theme interpretation
A wave is one of the two natures of light in physics

It is a good game.
Good job!

Just the CTRL+W close the tab :D

Nice mechanics! Obviously the theme implementation was great and it was fun to play around with and engineer a death room lol. All about those efficient angles. I had good fun!

Very cool idea, very good execution! I'm unfortunately not smart enough to use the mechanics to their full potential, but this was really well done.

The main gameplay of firing light in a laser then reflecting, diffracting or compressing it to fight enemies is cool as hell, and the objects (densouls iirc?) that you've given us work wonderfully to make it happen. I had no issues with the combat, though I do think the healing was extremely slow compared to the speed and damage of the enemies, I didn't end up using it much. The actual mechanics of the light worked really well, and a concept like this in a jam time frame would definitely be prone to bugs, so I'm quite impressed at how cleanly it functions! I would suggest changing the placement button from CTRL to maybe SHIFT for a web build, I CTRL+W closed the tab a few times lol

Graphics were nice and simple, I liked the enemies and the way you used actual light in the environment. The enemy sprites were good, the player and the beam look sufficiently unusual for it to feel like they're not from the shadows like the monsters are. The beam looked good, though potentially could've done with some more FX, e.g: hitting an enemy, hitting a densoul. The audio was good as well, the beam sounded as strong as it felt and it all seemed pretty consistent! Again, maybe some more FX for hitting the enemies could help juice the game up a little.

I did also notice that the game uses pixel art in some places, and line art in others. It's not a huge deal for a jam game, but it could definitely enhance the visuals a little bit if you made them all the same- the majority of the game is pixel art, so maybe making the text and densoul particles pixel too could tie it all together a little more. I do think that maps with pre-placed densouls could be a cool idea too, so that I'm not limited in power by my own stupidity as much :) Could potentially add some depth and strategy to player placement too if you need to work around what's already there?

Overall liked this quite a bit!! Gameplay concept and execution was really cool and the rest of the game fits it nicely :))

WOW I didn't expect someone to write such a detailed feedback comment, thank you ❤️

I agree with everything you said.

We run out of time to implement better FX for hitting enemies (they only slightly turn red as they loose hp).

On UI too, everything will be pixel art (except beam and densoul)

You pretty much foretold what our Steam release will have: there will be 21 levels (with the plot we had to cut on) each with a map layout including specific densoul structures. Endless mode will be available after you beat the final boss, so you'll have some ready to go ideas 🙂

Ahh no problem at all! I like giving feedback if it makes other devs happy :))

Time restriction absolutely makes sense, that's just the unfortunate part of a limited jam, I guess. I did notice the redness when I hit the enemies though, it communicated the health well so it was definitely a good inclusion!

Ooh, how exciting! I'll definitely stick around for a Steam release, then. Pumped to see what you guys come up with!!

This is ABSOLUTELY BRILLIANT! It has the chaotic aspect of Vampire Survivors, with every new wave getting more and more terrifying enemies haunting you while you get power-ups (having new lenses and mirrors to help fighting said enemies), and at the same time having the cool creative puzzle-solving experimental vibe of Portal, where you place those lenses and mirrors where they might fit best to utilize the light beam. What an amazing idea! Congrats!

This game is a lot of fun!  I spent about two hours trying to optimize my laser.  This game has great visuals and awesome music, and a functional tutorial for a jam is impressive!

The biggest piece of feedback I have is the player needs to be placing the lenses more often, and I think destroying a placed lenses should refund at least part of its cost.  I placed down a lot of mirrors only to find out they weren't quite right, but destroying them would be a waste.  I only destroyed ones that were actively harming my setup.  I played the game for so long because I was enjoying myself, but if you juice and polish it just a bit more you have an absolutely banger game.

Full marks from me, great job!

Developer

Thank you for the great feedback! I'm glad you enjoyed it 🥰

We're remaking it into a more polished version and aiming for a Steam release, so these will be addressed right away!

Love the innovation and theme interpretation. Great job. It’s very satisfying to build a prism like structure and shoot lazers in lots of directions at once.

My only criticisms would be a) don’t pickup souls if i’m already filled up on my meter and b) make the mirrors / lenses take far less souls so i can place more of them earlier in the game and get to the optic effects fun faster.

Great job!

Dude that's a cool game! Loved the mirror mechanics. Placed them into a ring formation and got them to bounce of loads. I liked how unique this submission was. Great job!

Very unique mechanics. I had a lot of fun combining the mirrors (+other densoul) in clever ways. I appreciated the tutorial, and it was very clear on what to do. During the actual game I wasn't entirely sure how or why I was unlocking different densoul (sometimes I just had one available, sometimes I had all three, and it seemed random). I found that the game was a little bit too dark for my screen. The sound/music was excellent.

Developer

Thanks for the feedback ☺️ gotta work on the dimness without spoiling the mood

PS different densoul can be placed when you've got enough soul, I should have indicated that on the slider or smth but time 😕

Great job guys! This is my 3rd 30/30  of all ratings for this jam

P.s. the mechanics are pretty addictive, kinda wanted to see more levels (wtf, you couldn't just put bigger mobs there or what ?  😆😆😆)

Loved the game! You can get some pretty cool and crazy combos, the enemys didn't have much luck aha.

Very good interpretation of the theme!

You have no idea how good it is to hear that 🧡 achieving the power fun pillar was one of our goals
