Hi everyone,
I want to share something I realized during this game jam, because there might be others like me who didn’t notice it at first.
I understood my mistake in this jam, and I want to explain it so you don’t make the same one.
First: don’t start your game without guidance or a tutorial — even a very simple one. Like in my jam game, nothing was clear at the beginning.
No matter what you do, show the best thing you made as early as possible. Literally tell it to the player through gameplay.
For example: I made a 4-hit combo combat system (left click combo with 4 animations). But in my game, this almost doesn’t exist in the first 5 minutes.
Please don’t do this mistake.
Use the thing you are best at, the thing that is the most fun, right at the start of the game to hook the player.
This is my advice. I hope it helps someone.
I don’t want to be misunderstood — I’m not blaming anyone. No one told me this before, and now I realize that maybe many players didn’t even know my game had combat at all, so they couldn’t finish it.
Maybe no one told me this, but now I’m telling you.
Maybe I saved you from realizing this much later.
Thanks for reading until the end.
