Game Description
Cut incoming arrows in slow motion and defend your village as a samurai. Precision, timing, and momentum are everything.
How does your game tie into the theme?
I think momentum could be a lot of things but in my mind comes the bullet time mechanic or something like that, so i played around the slowmo effect.

Amazing graphics & music though my reflexes aren't good enough to keep up :p
The time limit to hit all of the keys seems very tight. For me, part of the problem is that when I'm using WASD to control something, I don't think of them as the letters "W, A, S, and D", but instead think of them as directions (Up, Down, Left, Right) so I'm having to mentally translate that in the short ~2 second timeframe and that's making it a bit too difficult.
The sound and visual design is SO good. I really really enjoyed that.
Ty for your time playing my game and giving some feedback :D
Yeah, I originally wanted to use arrow keys, but I didn’t have sprites that fit the theme well, so I ended up using WASD. I agree that arrow keys would work better.
The slow motion gets reduced by 0.2s every wave to increase the difficulty, with a minimum limit of 0.5s. I might tweak those values.
It's really difficult to tell what's going on because the arrows blend in with the background and all of the text looks the same. I think readability could be improved in 2 ways: 1. color coding of the different keys to make them easier to distinguish and 2. having the character in the center of the screen and the arrows appear from four different sides (kind of like the Undyne fight in Undertale).
Ty you for playing it and your feedback :)
I'll keep this in mind for the next projects :D
This is a pretty neat concept for a game jam. Hitting the directions to react to incoming arrows has a lot of potential for this agile swordsperson fantasy using relatively straightforward mechanics.
I do find myself wishing this game played more like a rythm game though, rather than brief bullet-time periods where you have to press the right keys and hit space before a timer in the background runs out. Displaying WASD instead of something more intuitive like arrows and being to mash the keys with more arrows on the screen due to the lack of enforcing order or timing ends up creating a bit of a clunky gameloop and limits the experience for me.
With that being said the assets, music, and simplistic aesthetic are really effective... the atmosphere comes together really nicely!
Ty so much for your words and for taking the time to play the game!
I originally wanted to use arrow icons, but I didn’t have enough time and prioritized using text instead of sprites. I totally agree with your feedback.
It definitely could work as a rhythm game, I actually thought about that during prototyping but I felt it would be more difficult to implement and my time was very limited.
I found a bug where sometimes an arrow shows up without a letter above it.
Yeah, I noticed it, but I couldn’t fix it in time and prioritized other things to finish the game for the jam.
Sry about that :(
Love the Samurai theme & the art. Though I have feedback:
1. The WASD keys above the arrow are hard to see. 2. Having to press space after pressing all of them seems weird to me, I would've taken that out. 3. There could be less time between arrows
Ty so much for your time :D
Totally agree, wanted to do with arrow keys with sprites and animations to be more clear but didn't have the time. I think the space key to confirm the attack is cool for me but I totally understand.
And yeah, could be more things to do the game more difficult and incremental.
Your game looks cool but unfortunately when I press a key to start, I just get a white screen and nothing happens. You should be able to submit a ticket to fix this since it's a game-breaking bug. I will check back later and replay if an update is available!
It works perfectly for me, what browser are you using? I'm using Brave it's working :(
Firefox on windows. edit: checked again, still the same, and no errors in my console. I can still see a very faint outline of the word "Zenshin" but other than that all white.
I tried Edge and is working too, it's going a bit to slow for animations idk why but at least it's working
idk :(
Sorry, same problem in edge too. Windows 10 fwiw.
