For me, this is the BEST 2D PIXEL GAME in this jam so far (the best 3D is ours XD), and I really like the way you interpret the theme lol.
I love the background story! It makes me imagine this lil game being expanded into a bigger RPG someday.
While playing, I spent some time memorizing which eye against which enemy. I was wondering if the connection between the eyes and the enemies could be stronger, e.g., if the Blood Magic Eye uses Vézias's own magic blood, it does make sense that the Mage who also uses magiccan resist it. In this case, I think the Knight would resist the Knife and Heavy Magic Eyes, etc.
The colors between eyes and enemies (match or not) also affect me. I mean the Mages and Rogues are easier because the eyes that they resist have similar colors, so I can quickly make a decision.
Hope my feedback helps ^^
Thank you so much! That is some high praise!! Happy to know you loved our game as much as we loved yours!!
We'd love to expand this game into a full RPG someday! Kinda started falling in love w/ the world as we were making it haha!
I see what you mean about making the connection stronger. Especially for the knight. Poor guy is getting killed by so much stuff if he doesn't have a shield XD As for the colors, I'm messing around w/ a mechanic now to have a chance for each enemy to spawn w/ a different color once you get to a certain kill threshold (so knights could spawn in red and blue instead of just grey for example). Hoping that might add another layer to the not trusting your eyes theme.
Thank you again for the feedback and taking time to play! Really appreciate it!!
I love the game's page!! You've inspired us for our next jam to bedazzle our game page with a thoughtful description and some pretty background patterns! For the game itself, the lore is interesting and the gameplay easy to pick up. I can see the idea being a standalone finished game or expanded with more levels, enemies, etc. Very nice
Thanks so much for the kind words! Flattered to have inspired you for the next jam! My wife did most of the page and all of the lore and was super happy reading this comment haha! Glad you enjoyed the game itself and appreciate the feedback on the options to have it be standalone or expanded on! Glad you liked the game b/c we loved yours too!
Fun game and funny interpretation of the theme!
Thank you! It's unfortunate that even when you're a giant eyeball monster, you still can't trust your eyes haha!
This is great! Feels like a really complete game, and I love the art style and music. Easy rules to pick up, but still hard enough to master that you can't help but make mistakes - then keep playing repeatedly to try avoid the mistakes you made in your last run.
One of my favourites in the jam so far for really keeping it simple and focusing on that one tiny idea, keeping it simple and polishing it super well. Nicely done!
I think you could probably increase the time pressure a bit, so there's less time to think clearly about what weapon will work (I think you might do this already as the game progresses?) Alternatively, some kind of bonus for attacking quickly, e.g. a meter that fills up towards restoring/adding a heart, Both of these could incentivise acting as soon as possible to add more tension.
So happy you enjoyed it! We really tried to lean into the tiny game aspect! Glad we made it work!
And you're right, the time does decrease as you get more kills (starts at 10 seconds, goes down to 5 seconds). Definitely thinking about moving it down even further after the jam, but didn't want to push it down too far w/o enough testing so stuck to 5 seconds given the small time window. I really like the idea of earning a heart through fast attacking! I'll mess around with that when I get some time and see how it feels.
Thanks so much for the feedback and taking time to play! Really appreciate it!
Really good! Feels like a fresh take on rhythm games. The gameplay was actually really clear.
Ty for the feedback! Glad everything was clear! I hadn't actually thought of the rhythm game connection but can definitely see what you mean with the constant eye rotation giving you a beat to follow along with. Happy you enjoyed the game!
It felt like a really fresh twist on Rock Paper Scissors, with a few new gameplay mechanics, except you can see what your opponent is doing, and there is a knife that beats almost everything.
It feels like a rhythm game because you essentially need to hit the key at the right moment.
Once you get into the game, you know that fire works on rogue and the blue bubble works on wizard, so you basically wait and press the button with the right timing. And yes, the rotation gives it a beat.
it’s a neat game, but it could really use an in-game tutorial instead of just a how-to-play, it’s hard to understand what’s going on when you’re thrown into it for the first time :D really nice art and sound though
Thank you so much for the feedback! Totally agree with it! I was trying to get a better tutorial in, but ran out of time before the deadline, so went with the text how-to-play in hopes it would be good enough for the jam voting period. I'll work on a proper tutorial in my free time this week to have it ready post-jam. Thanks again!
Simple game with a simple art style.
And wow , you put so much information and effort into the game page text!
I just realized the connection to the theme is literally “don’t trust your eyes.”
Great job on the writing, gameplay, art, and the story background , everything fits the theme really well!
Ty for the kind words and time playing! Yeah, we ended up taking the theme super literal lol! As a general rule of thumb, don't trust disembodied, floating eye monsters haha!
Good job! Very polished game, cool backstory, cute artstyle and sounds. I had fun playing!
Thanks for the kind words and taking time to play! Glad you enjoyed it!
