OK, I played again and it stopped soft locking. Maybe I needed to blink more.
I got all the tiny guys.
The game didn’t end?
Is there an ending?
Is there another secret?
tbh it's probably a bug... didn't have much time to playtest, one of my friends played it and they didn't have a problem with this... Thanks for the feedback and thanks for playing!
It is a great game and very fun! I had some bugs that soft locked the game.
Overall, it was a positive experience and I enjoyed playing your game.
The game has a strong visual style and definitely looks cool at first glance. That said, the experience felt confusing because it wasn’t clear how I was supposed to reach the elves or progress toward that goal, so I often felt unsure of what I should be doing. The controls also felt very difficult to handle, which made it harder to explore and experiment, and turned that confusion into frustration instead of curiosity.
Hi,
You gave me a similar review. This isn’t my game so I can be more objective. This is an easy game. After reading the relatively short instructions, it was pretty straightforward.
People put effort and hard work into making their games. If you wanna review them fairly, which I hope you do, I may have some advice. Testing games might require a bit of effort at first, to figure out how to play and experience them more fully. Even many professional games require some patience at first.
Doing that allows a critic or playtester to provide relevant criticism that is constructive and builds a person up. We are beginner game developers and perhaps an experimental game made by a beginner is frustrating. Especially when a game dev gets their hands dirty with game mechanics that are a bit brave and unfamiliar to players.
Your reviews are honest and you don’t want to sugarcoat things which is good! You put in effort to review many games! I feel that making a game puts a game dev in a vulnerable position.
Yes, fellow game devs should definitely be critical, especially with people who want to become professionals. However, I feel that there’s a balance.
Considering how simple this game is, is it possible that wanting to help and provide feedback to as many people as possible can encourage quicker reviews? These can be less forgiving to experimental game mechanics. At some point it shifts the focus from whether a game works towards expecting games to provide a smooth learning curve right away. Do you think beginner experimental games should prioritize a smooth learning curve, or is it okay if they’re a bit rough at first?
Thanks,
tHoG
it is meant to be a bit confusing. the theme is don't trust your eyes, and if you can't trust one of your senses it would be a bit confusing at first. if you just don't know what to do read the info I put in the comments and the discrib. if it's not clear for you how to reach the elfs I acchived what I wanted to. this is a simple puzzle game where instead of solving stuff with your wits, you need to experiment with the tools you have. Thanks for playing my game and thanks for the feed back, hope this helped!
So I did encounter the bugs people have already mentioned. If you're still troubleshooting those, I will say I managed to avoid them by walking around with my blink vision active a lot, especially when moving to another room. That seemed to cause the bug not to occur.
I managed to get 5 (or 6, can't remember) elves and the elf king disappeared, but I couldn't figure out how to exit. Am I supposed to do anything else after he disappears?
Also, the art and lighting is really good! And I did enjoy the core game loop too (when I was able to navigate around the bug). It was fun finding the light switch and figuring out how to get the elves!
The game seems to be bugged for me too, similar to what others have said. From what I played (I was able to collect 2 elves and drop them on the green tiles), it had great animations, and I love the baked-in lighting that you have. Great job on the art! I would suggest more thorough playtesting, though.
thanks for the feedback!
the premise sounds fun and the art is nice, but it’s kinda buggy and the mechanics aren’t explained. I got trapped with an elf and couldn’t progress :-(
Thank you for the feedback!
Really cute artstyle, but I'm not sure about what do I have to do :\
yea I fumbled the explonation, if you want I can help you with it! thakns for the feedback!
The game also bugged out for me, unfortunately, so I didn't get to play much further than picking up my first elf.
Im sorry about that, if you want you can write down the exact problem that you were having, and I'll help you with it!
Wow, I really liked the theme of the jam, it seems to be revealed, but unfortunately I can’t complete the game, I tried 5 times and the game freezes every time, it’s very frustrating ((
if you see the statuss icon changge in the bottom right corner press space! it resets it! thanks for the feedback!
