Creative Vision / Rationale / How Did You Incorporate the Theme
The two hands in the title are from the Creation of Adam, expressing anticipation and cherishing of new life. At the same time, it conveys a sense of connection. I believe that the relationship between a person and the outside world is a reflection of their relationship with themselves. To connect with the world, one must first connect with oneself. This reminds me of Jung's concept of the shadow.
The shadow and the light originate from the same source. However, during the process of growing up, the aspects that are not recognized by the world are suppressed, causing a rejection of oneself. Unwanted and unacceptable aspects of oneself are repressed into the shadow, mistakenly believing that the true self is merely a shell of light. This misunderstanding imprisons us. The shadow contains immense power. The shadow that frightens us and makes us want to escape is actually secretly helping and saving us, and also hoping for our acceptance and salvation. Light and shadow together constitute the complete self. These two forces wax and wane, endlessly, like the waxing and waning of the moon, the ebb and flow of the tides.
In Syzygy, the player, as the shadow, constantly finds their imprisoned self and leads it towards the world of light. Making peace with oneself and with the shadows of the past is like being reborn.
