Creative Vision / Rationale / How Did You Incorporate the Theme
For this game jam, we aimed to make game that was as much about the effort for connection as it was about connection itself. During brainstorming, we tossed around a lot of different ways of interpreting and translating the prompt image. At its core, it's an image that depicts the struggle to connect more so than the actual connection. The hands aren't quite in contact, but they're reaching for it. Will that contact be secured? Is it only fleeting? The questions we began to discuss applied themselves directly to our game, which is also fundamentally a story about the effort for connection. We don't catch Nia or Molly at their beginning or their end. Thus, we can't know for certain how deep their connection can go. But, by playing as the wisp and gradually coaxing the two out of their isolation, bringing light and cheer back to their lives, and reminding them of the things they do feel connected to, we rouse them to continue the effort for connection. We hope that the story, gameplay, and atmosphere might have an effect like that for our players: maybe those who take the time to sort through Nia and Molly's lives, explore their homes, and bring them back together might walk away with some renewed optimism that the connections they want to make in life aren't impossible.
Cool game! I love the story. I had to replay it because I got soft locked (I diddnt have enough light for the lamp because I diddnt notice it)
Thanks!
Extremely charming! Impressively elaborate for this jam! I really loved the writing, though I did get lost a couple times on the puzzles. Great work :)
This is an excellent game! It’s a super cute puzzle/mystery game. I really like your story — each item has its own dialogue, and I love the feeling of piecing the whole event together by picking up different items and interacting with the main characters. There are so many things to explore, and through interacting, I managed to get the whole story. The puzzles are fun to think about, but just pouring the tea confuses me a bit, since I don’t know which tea bag to pick.
One small thing: the fairy’s movement speed feels a bit too slow, so it doesn’t feel super responsive, and it can get a little tiring to control. Other than that, everything is really great. Overall, that is amazing!
