Creative Vision / Rationale / How Did You Incorporate the Theme
When the theme was announced, we took a day to chat about what emotions were evoked or ideas that could be communicated via mechanics before brainstorming any game concepts. Our team loved the themes of connecting with something otherworldly, the allusion to the creation myth, and what it means to be formed by the art you create. This lead us down the path of creating a puzzle platformer that's rooted in the need to rely on each others abilities to overcome obstacles, oh and plot twist the light is a GOD!!!!!!!

Initially, our team member who pitched this idea wanted our lil ball of light "Lumin" to be the god-like figure who created our main protagonist the Luminbear. While we still have that as our own head canon, we found communicating an abstract idea, without an exposition dump, challenging, so we focused on the themes of "human" connection and how it can make people better than the sum of their parts.

All of the puzzles in this game could not be solved by either Lumin or Luminbear alone. Only through their cooperation and innate connection, can they face the trials of the cave they find themselves in and escape in two pieces (them separately, not being separated like they're in two pieces which would be four, i think you understand what I mean).

Our team, while small, were able to strategically use our strengths to create something better than any one of us could ever hope in two weeks. We hope you enjoy the journey of Lumin and Luminbear!

What a cute little game. I really liked the puzzles, visuals and music!

At the last large door I was way to focused to throw the ball into the hole above instead of recognizing the lantern behind me xD
The atmosphere was very nice. I especially liked the room with all the stars around. The changing face on the ball while throwing is a very nice touch.

Some recommendation from me:

  • For a short game like this the mechanic was okay. At the later stages it was getting a little bit boring.
  • The camera was a bit to fast and hectic, and messed my movement up sometimes
  • The platforming is a nice touch, but the controls are too "smooth" and it was always the feeling of sliding off

Overall a very nice game for the time!

Thanks a lot for giving it a go and for the nice words :) We are so glad you enjoyed it. The feedback is very much appreciated too! We will take it into account, and we agree. For the short dev time there are a few things we wanted to polish and couldn't but overall we are happy. Haha yeah the faces are great I am glad you noticed! Courtesy of Kati's pencil

This shit fire, the one part with the lights in the corridor made me feel cozy like i was 14 again playing zelda at home, truly a sort of return to the womb moment for gamers. Yes i will be obsessing over that basketball game the next few days. All in all very wholesome experience great soundtrack, it captures what i like in a platformer this seeming tension between comfort nostalgia and melancholy.

Glad it spoke to you! It felt like that making it too . Thanks for the sweet words

This is incredibly polished and fun to play! The atmosphere and mood reminded of The Last Campfire. Really enjoyed all of the puzzles and my favorite part was descending down into the glowing corridor. The only thing that I would have liked more, is if I was able to use my mouse to retrieve Lumin as opposed to pressing R, which would have made timing jumps to certain platforms a little less cumbersome.  Well done!

Wow thank you so much for playing our game!! I LOVE The Last Campfire LOL so that made my day. Appreciate the feedback, noted for the next one o7!!

That's a realy impressive game you made, there's a lot of content, different environments and puzzles. The puzzle mechanics works well, I like it and even played basketball for a few minutes.

I've had a bug in the lava section. I didn't manage to jump on the platfom below and instead tried to jump on the lava on the right. There's no killzone there so I was stuck and had to restart the game. Besides that and a few camera transitions this is an insane game for a jam, congrats!

Very Impressed what you guys were able to pull off in two weeks! The art and everything is beautiful. There were instances in the game I found funny where I would have to pull off some "tech" of recalling while jumping in order to land on the next platform, though i am all for it! Overall great job! y'all should be very proud of this!

Developer

Thanks so much for playing our game and the nice words! Yeah it took sometime for our level designer to realize how to teach the players that tech at a good pace! We find it really fun too  :)

I really like the puzzle mechanics in your game—honestly, I’d love to have something similar in mine. The camera controls felt a bit tricky though, so I’m not sure if I just didn’t figure it out properly.

thank you for the kind words! I chose to use the fixed cameras as design challenge to study how Little Nightmares uses theirs and try to expand on it a little, then very quickly realized how difficult it was once the levels got more layered LOL. So big agree on it being a bit wonky, I was struggling to find the balance between framing cool shots and making it more gameplay friendly. Thanks for playing and for your feedback!!!
