Yeah this is Game

This is really nostalgic! I love everything about it! The music is really fitting, the sound effects aren't too loud, the next level is ready instantly and I love the black stage transition effect too! Starting right from the start when you die, although accurate to the era, is a little harsh hehe.

This one is really cool, my skill issue was terrible, but I really enjoyed it, took a while to reach level 2, overall a nice game, and it goes quite well with the theme, although it sucked dying to bullet of a dead enemy at the end of a wave

Loved playing this one! I really enjoyed how it evolved a little each level. Well done!

Nice! Of the ones I’ve seen so far, this is the one that connects the most with the theme

i really like the music and the change of pixels in each level. Also nice connection to the theme

Neat concept! I really like how the game combines different retro eras into a single game,  def a 5/5 connection to the theme. The presentation is great, each style is well translated. Gameplay felt a bit repetitive for me, especially having to start over every time, which slightly reduced the enjoyment but that’s more of a personal preference. Overall, a very cool and creative idea!

Love the concept of getting more complex, can’t believe they’re trying to harsh my simple-time vibe. Game was definitely a bit hard, which could be a skill issue, and definitely isn’t a bad thing - I tried my very best to get to the end but ultimately wasn’t able to… (Y_Y) Though I still had fun trying over and over and making it a little further each go around!!

I like the idea of the game become more complex with each level that's cool. I would suggest giving the enemy bullets a different color in level one.

I love the idea of switching between 32, 16 and 2 bits.

I love the music and visuals...
Maybe I would change two things: in level 3, I would rotate the player towards the mouse cursor and rotate enemies to show where they will shoot. In level 1 I would change colors so enemies, the player and projectiles would be distinguishable. I’m rating the presentation 5/5, so don’t worry. I understand that you might not want to add these changes in order to stay as accurate to the original style as possible.

Man, this game was irritating at some points. I felt frustrated in level 1 because everything blended together. Level 2 was too hard. It would be nice if checkpoints were at every sub-level, instead of having to repeat the entire bit era every time the boss kills me — especially when I don’t like that era.

Connection to the theme, presentation and creativity are your strong side.

P.S.
I think your request to finish the game before rating is too much. Rage-quitting or stopping a game you don’t enjoy at a certain moment is completely natural, and as a game developer, you shouldn’t push players into these decisions.

I think you could design the game backwards, so it becomes simpler over time and shows your best skills at the beginning. That way, everyone might be happier.

Thanks for the detailed feedback! I'll definitely consider these recomendations for future games.

I was actually planning to rotate the player and enemies fully at level 3 but I only figured out how to rotate the enemies correctly at the boss and decided to make it a unique feature for the boss alone.

Added desktop builds both for Windows and Linux (though I cannot test on Linux right now)

And most importantly, added an easier, REBALANCED version of the game (for desktop only though, because changing the main, web version after submission would seem unfair)

I really like the transitions between waves and the music is really good but man is the game hard. I was able to get to level 3 but sometimes projectiles are hard to see and react to

I'm sorry I tried for like 15 mins but that level 3 boss is just so unfun, especially paired with the checkpoint system. Feels like Groal the Great from Silksong. Level 1 and 2 I thought were awesome and had a really nice difficulty curve. The visuals are great throughout. But aiming in Level 3 feels so unsatisfying. The bullets fly way too slow compared to how fast the character moves, making it really hard to hit the already unpredictable enemies. The game concept was great though.

As stated very difficult curve, but It's cool, well done!

This is a pretty good game!

Booooooooy was it challenging, but was it satisfying beating this game at the end! A nice evolution of space shooters through time, and a good game for tryharders. I must say thank you for not setting me back to level 1 after losing in level 3 or I would have gone crazy. Good game!

Great game! Really struggled to survive though (may just be a skill issue). I couldn't get past the fourth wave on the first level, despite trying several times. Would hope for an option to retry from that specific wave instead of beginning from the beginning. Although I did not get to try the other levels, I still enjoyed the game.

EDIT: Haver showed me the gameplay of the game so I watched it and wow. The gameplay has a lot of depth. The presentation of the different visuals look cool and I loved how the gameplay changed throughout the game. Excellent submission for the theme of simpler times :D

The Game has a really well made difficulty but youcant really see anything because everything being Black. But also The simple textures are the reason that the Game also could run on a gameboy. Overall 2.5/5

Developer

Not sure what do you mean by everything is black. If you think a bug occured, I'd be glad if you gave more information about that or sent screenshots to me on Discord.
