The movement is really unique, and I really liked it. The variety of upgrades and powerups was cool to see. I loved the art and sound. I wish strokes were a bit more impactful because when I went high speeds it was near impossible to turn without breaking.

I love the art. The button mashing thing was rage inducing at first, then I switched to mobile and it felt way better!

The key is to take it easy and not rush. It's tuned to be finishable that way. Takes a while though. But it's arcade-esque with the leaderboard, so you gain recognition for putting in the time. If you wouldn't rather waste it elsewhere.

Had a blast playing this, the music/sound far exceeded expectations and movement mechanics are creative. I wonder if it would be more satisfying for each individual stroke to be more impactful... awesome game, love the sense of progression.

I honestly was a huge fan of what you did with the sound here. I know you mentioned that it was geared toward mobile so i dont think its fair to take a negative stance on how the button mashing thing kinda sucks on pc, but its honestly a fun game to play with great sound and reallly really good art

Probably the best art I've seen so far, masterful dithering like this is commendable, just dragging the window through my monitors with different resolution showed different patterns, great job! The gameplay felt way too button mashy though, and the character still felt uncontrollable. Can't really get mad while looking at such great sprites well drawn marine life. Good job!

Developer

Thanks. I tried to justify the button mashy element by reminding myself of Surf Champ from the 80s where you were given a plastic surfboard to place on your keyboard which was supposed to feedback its motion to the game. It was terrible TBH, but with the kick flipping left and right I was just rolling my wrist left and right once a second on the num keys.

There isn't much reward for going fast. You save oxygen, but speed is dangerous and you miss the powerups which the basekit diver is sorely in need of.

Nice! great art, it felt a bit restricting at first because you can barely maneuver but after you get the first upgrades it's really fun. The key is not to rush it, break if you need to and grab the stars. Fun game, good job!

After getting the hang of it on mobile, I thought I flowed quite nicely, and the kicking-tapping mechanism was neat. Accompanied by the chill music, I just grooved for a while.

Great art! Difficult controls, didn't make it very far lol. Gonna have to give it another go

Developer

Thank you. It gets easier on mobile TBH; not being tethered to a desk was a huge motivator for this.

The art in this game is absolutely magnificent. It’s so splendidly 1-bit that I was about to write that “everything’s great, but it seems there’s a bit more color than two.” However, when I took a screenshot and zoomed in, I realized I was completely fooled by the dithering.

Gameplay-wise, it’s also quite interesting — a proper diving simulator of sorts! The mechanic seems very simple on the surface but has surprising depth. A classic case of “easy to learn, hard to master.”

Just a couple of minor notes:

  • The font really clashes with the overall style of the game. It appears to be a standard vector font with a shader to make it look 1-bit, whereas I’d love to see a true 1-bit pixel font.

  • The checkered pattern background in the menus and buttons is absolutely eye-searing! %-)

I was unable to fully test the game due to frankly poor controls. I think it's a bug.

It's not a bug. Thank you for not playing.
