Despite being tested by Peskowitz, Isecke, and Levy, the Jewishness of this story is only relevant insofar as the father had moved from New York to Florida. Even calling the old man zayde or something would have sufficed. Without even a mild concession like that, why bother calling it Dad's Shiva?
Setting aside the fact that it could be made about Protestants without any real difference at all, I found the actual story to be predictable, clumsy, and mawkish. The characters are not fleshed out enough to draw out real emotion, which here unfortunately prevents any real connection or impact.
This is such an emotionally impactful and haunting story!
I played this one a little while ago after my partner recommended it, I'm happy to see it again in this showcase. Back then I think I had a hunch as to where the story was going, but the ending hasn't left my mind since. It's a really brilliant, hurtful kind of work.
