Developer

Great job. The animations are super clean and smooth like inserting the coin, attack animations for the enemies, level transitions. I saw in a previous comment that generation is random so that's also a really cool touch. I think it can be polished with more enemies and more balancing and you have yourself a nice little game you can release

Developer

Thx! That's true. We initially planned for more cards and enemy types, as well as more diversity and expansive terrain (such as traps or larger maps), but since this is only a one week long game jam, we decided to lower the specifications.

I'm actually quite impressed that you managed to put this together during the span of a game jam. It feels good, everything from the sfx to the graphics are well stylized, and it's been some of the most enjoyable gameplay I've encountered during the jam. Well done!

Things I liked:

- The visual style and the unique designs of the main character and the enemies

- Various special bullets

- Dash

- The main screen and the overall idea of playing an arcade

Things that need improvement in my opinion:

- The music is rather repetitive

- There are only 2 types of enemies and they never come together for some reason

- Level's layout sometimes makes it impossible to avoid enemies and gets you cornered quickly

Developer

ths for playing! Yes, the generation of enemies and terrain is completely random, but the generation of terrain follows segmented random generation, while the generation of enemies is completely random. However, enemies always tend to be generated in a dispersed manner, which leads to this situation. However, since the terrain only follows segmented random generation and does not include other generation rules (except for the area around the entrance, which is always a flat floor), it may generate some encirclement circles to trap players. Therefore, we set the player's Dash to be able to penetrate enemies and bullets, and players can use the Dash to avoid some obstacles and bad situations.

Man this is a good entry I love the presentation feels really polished. Also I love how you have to insert a new coin each time you get a gameover.

Developer

Thank you for your evaluation! The idea of coin insertion was conceived by Jimmys, who has excellent artistic skills and creative planning :))

Strong visuals and a unique style.
The music is great, and the camera angle is unusual but works really well. Enemies have nice, enjoyable animations, and I like that they’re based on simple shapes. It fits the game jam theme perfectly.

The gameplay is simple, but combined with the atmosphere it feels like it has real potential for further development into a full post game jam game. Personally, I could even imagine it as a roguelite, but that’s probably just because I’m a fan of that genre.

The special abilities feel like they have very little impact on the gameplay, and it’s not always clear what they actually do.

Special mention goes to the menu. Breaking the fourth wall there is hilarious. The different visual style compared to the main game works really well, and clicking the buttons is oddly fun.

I found a small visual bug that doesn’t affect gameplay. When I shoot downward, the projectiles come back from the top as if they were coming from my camera. I’ll link a short video once I upload it:

Overall, a very solid game with one of the most unique visual styles I’ve seen so far at this game jam. Really enjoyable.

Edit 1: P.S.
There’s a fullscreen issue. The blue Unity button works, but the Itch.io fullscreen button overlaps it and doesn’t work properly. Disabling the Itch.io fullscreen option could probably fix it. Cheers!

You did an in-depth review, much appreciated :)

Oh my god, I thought this bug no longer existed. By the way, thank you for playing and testing. I think this bug is easy to solve, maybe I just forgot to save the fix record XD

thx or the detailed comment!
and personal thx for appreciating the music!

Love loooove the presentation. The game feels good, but not great to play. The main issues being a lack of feedback on the abilities. I didn't feel like they did any more damage than just shooting them. And the dash felt a bit too short, thus making the movement feel a little slow. I noticed sometimes the pyramid enemies could stunlock you if there were two of them, but maybe that's a skill issue on my part. Great submission overall!

thx for playing!

thx! Among the three types of card bullets, one has no damage, one has the same damage as regular bullets, and another doubles the damage with each rebound. Therefore, sometimes players may feel that card bullets seem to have no damage issues. Actually, at the beginning, I hoped that the basic damage of any card bullet should be higher than that of a regular bullet, but others didn't think so, so we changed it to that card bullets may not necessarily have higher damage than regular bullets. Regarding the issue of movement mechanism, it is true that we initially only set the sprint distance to allow the player to cross a hole, so the distance was not far. I initially set the player's movement speed very high, but later found that the map itself was relatively small, so I decided to lower the movement speed a bit. Anyway, thank you for your suggestion :))

Really solid submission! The gameplay is really satisfying and does have a decent skill curve - which is hard to do in such a short game.

I thought the presentation was great - the main menu in particular was a really cute way of starting the game.

Developer

thx :) the whole ideas are come from other members, i just code them lol

The presentation really gave those good old vibes of going to an arcade and throwing a coin to start to play. The alt shot upgrade was nice to use as well. Great job!

Developer

thx for playing!

Developer

thx :)) The original plan was to develop an upgrade module for cards, but unfortunately, a lot of our programming time was wasted on fixing bugs. My programming skills are still a bit lacking XD
