You did an excellent job recreating the old Windows interface (It's crazy that Windows 7 means nostalgia now, I'm getting old). The idea is really cool, you designed an interesting system of damage and defense. For a mouse based gameplay it's really unique.
I have to complain about the enemies' and their patterns. There seems to be a lot of rules to be followed in your game, but no one of them are explained. For example, there's no visual indicator to know if you hovered the cursor enough time over the exploding viruses to avoid the damage or there's no explanation about why the cursor starts to move out of control (I hope that's not a probel of my mouse hehe).
I'm not an expert about styilistic details, but Windows 7 has some well defined visuals and design elements. I think it woul've been cool if you'd recreated those details to create more cohesive visuals.
This was a pretty unique entry with a great approach to the jam's theme. Good job!
First of all: Thanks for the feedback and support!
Second: I thought that the patterns were easy to notice, so I did not really specify them. The exploding virus waits for some time before exploding after you hovered over it (even one frame of hovering is enough to set him of). The "free gte6 no virus" one just freezes your mouse when you click on it and the one with the corrupted mouse on it will move your mouse towards it after 5 seconds of cooldown. And if a new bug/virus appears, you could learn what it does by removing every other bug/virus and seeing what it does.
Third: What do you mean with the styilistic details? I know it has an animation playing at startup, but I was just too lazy to do that (if even possible), so I just put a picture while the game loads. I also know that the windows have cool animations, but I really didn't have time to implement them. I actually wanted to make a shader that would make the desktop kind of look like vhs, but I didn't had time for that either.
I mean, I didn't even had time to make the time go on in the lower left corner or just opening the file explorer or "my computer".
But thanks, I really appreciate your feedback! (also, did you get to the boss?)
In my case, I tried to hover the mouse over the exploding viruses the fastest I can, but they didn't seem to explode. I guess it could be a consequence of my cursor's speed making the collision hard to detect.
Even tho, I think some visuals are required to explain the mechanics. For example, if the virus is about to explode, a color change (into red or orange, maybe), a size change or even a bomb timer sound could be great to explain what's about to happen. If the virus freezes you, then an ice visual or a frezing sound may work perfect. Your game already has some of these kind of details, but they're important in both the proper events and their antelations.
About stylistic decisions, the backgrounds do a great job emulating that Windows 7 aesthetic, but once the timer and the viruses appear they don't look very cohesive. I think this article may work as a first approach of what I was talking about. Sorry if I can't explain the idea more my myself:

I'm not sure if I reached the boss. There was a moment when a lot of windows popped up, but I just lost the control of the cursor and got really confused on what was happening.
Because of your fast mouse speed the mouse skipped over the collision of the virus, so it couldn't detect. I don't know why I didn't thought of the idea to change the color of the viruses before they explode, I guess it was good enough for me. Playing a freezing sound when the mouse gets frozen goes into the same group as the changing color before exploding, it was good enough. But I will note that for my future projects!
The bugs/viruses should look out of place, they are on an "another dimension" you could say, but maybe I got carried away trying to make that feeling...
Also, about the font stylistics, I was too lazy to import a font into godot (I am very lazy), so I just used the system font. But I did use the Segoe UI font while creating the upgrades.
Also, no you did not reach the boss. That sequence happens when you loose. I know I've made it a bit confusing and up-in-your-face, but that was the best idea on how to indicate that you lost. But retrying and getting to the boss is absolutely worth it! I absolutely love the boss design and what he does. But note that the boss only appears in the desktop downloadable version. I had no time making the boss work with the browser and it wouldn't be so thrilling.
i hate viruses, but love your game. keep it up
Feel free to check and rate my game :)
Thanks for the support!
I'm afraid I must be missing something. I can't seem to progress at all. Nothing I click on seems to do anything. Is there something I have to do to get the enemies to start spawning?
Yeah, I should've clarified it somewhere, to progress you have to open notepad by double clicking on it. Hope that helps!
Got it! That was actually surprisingly fun! I played a few rounds. A pretty creative concept!
Thanks for the support! And sry for the late response, I only noticed your comment now.
great idea, really original
Thanks for the support!
I wished I was able to squish those viruses like that back in the days when it was a major thing.
Nice presentation, totally relatable, even upgrades, great idea there!
Thanks for the support!
Cool! Nice reminder of good old windows 7.
I like the idea and the game is pretty fun. Though one issue I did ran into was that too many of the enemy that was spawning popups lead to them becoming impossible to hit as they would shield themself with the popups. Also thanks for rating my submission.
Thanks for the feedback and support! Also, there are some upgrades that prevent that from happening, but it's luck based, so I can't blame you for not getting them.
I really like it! Super creative and I love the idea of fending off the bugs by clicking on them. Great job dude!
Thanks for the support! Love your games btw. :)
Thanks!
why have my PC now a real VIRUS!!!!!!!
Good game! I especially likeed when the BSOD appeared (just like in real life)
