Interesting concept. I think i found a bug where if you just keep building a tower of pebbles by dropping them on each other.  Each pebble will have more and more gap between them. Also this is the easiest way to climb. You basically create your own stairs and don't care about anything else. You even can place a block on the same block you standing but little bit to the side. I don't think this is intended.

The pebble placing was pretty buggy in the last build I could upload before the deadline, but I think I ended up fixing that gap bug and some other pebble placing bugs afterwards.  I'll probably upload the fixed version sometime after the end of the jam.  Being able to lock pebbles next to each other is intended, though.  I do think I need to figure out a way to better incentivize not just stacking straight up though.  Thanks for the feedback!

Very nice! I had a lot of fun with it, and the art was really cute.  I love the use of 3d art in a 2d environment like that, you made that look so smooth.

I did get stuck for awhile, until I saw you could stick Pebbles together to freeze them.  And then, only at the very end did I see you could stick pebbles to the sides of things, too.  But once I figured that out, it was a lot of fun to climb the tower.

I do appreciate the easy mode, I tried hard mode a bit and...  Man that water is fast.  I am not good at placing the Pebbles onto the sides of things, so I basically drowned before I even got anywhere.

Cute game! I love the biboo sprite!

I like the gameplay mechanic of putting pebbles down, it has some interesting strategy, and I think it could be fun to speedrun/compare times!

Developer(+1)

Thanks for the feedback!  I also thought a run timer would be cool thing to add, but didn't end up having enough time to put it in.  I'll definitely go back and add it after the jam!

I like the concept of the game! Building platforms using pebbles as stepping stones!

The pyr0xene 3D model fits perfectly in the game! Good job!

Adding an "easy" mode that makes the game accessible for less skilled players is a great addition. This way it's less frustrating and more enjoyable for casual players and, at the same time, you give the option to go "hard" for those who like a challenge.

Some improvement suggestions:

- Audio! Just a little sound effect when placing/removing a pebble and when Biboo jumps would've helped a lot. Maybe a warning sound when the ink is about to rise too.

- Aiming the pebble placement is tricky when the camera position is not consistent. Maybe it's skill issue on my part, since I can't point my mouse cursor precisely and quickly at the same time. (I use a trackball)

- Consider setting aside a couple of days of the jam to get people to play test your game, so you can adjust the difficulty to better suit different player skill levels.

I hope you consider implementing later the elements you wanted to add but couldn't before you ran out of time.

Good game!

Thanks for the feedback!  I didn't consider that people might try to place without stopping, that seemed way too hard to me too.  I'm planning on adding some kind of snapping to other pebbles, so maybe that might help.  Getting some playtesting mid-jam would be great, but I think I need to work on better time management next time for that.  I don't know if you saw, but I submitted 3 min. before the deadline, haha!  After the jam's over I'm definitely planning on going back and adding a bunch of improvements, too!

Nice little bite sized experience!

Like the pebble placing mechanics and the fact that that enables multiple routes to the top, and you designed the level with that in mind!

Good job not getting crazy over scoped for your first game jam, and this still has a lot of room to grow if you want to return to it. Great work!

A good first game. It might be easier for the players if the ink rise much later as players are still learning how to use place the pebbles to make a bridge. That was the hardest part. I had a easier time afterwards as it was easier to build upward.

Nice concept and fun idea. My only problem was at the very start, where i didn't know that pebbles could stick to walls, if it weren't for the screenshots it might have taken me a lot more to figure out the very first obstacle.

Cute art!! And love the color palette

Cute game!

Hah! Not bad, it's just I had to be REALLY precise with my mouse since one pixel away and it won't snap the blocks O-o'''

But I liked the challenge!

I beat it on hard in one try. I think the first gap should've been placed last rather than first, since it's the only hard gap. Other than that, if you do anything more with this I think it should be some way of making puzzles that need careful placement and possibly thought into the order of placement. Some way of slightly adjusting the map each playthrough would've also been good.

The first gap is definitely the hardest part since it's slow to build the path and you can't go up, but once you get past that and a bit of the ways up, there's not as much of a challenge as it's pretty easy to speed upward with the unlimited pebbles. It's unfortunate the level design didn't give much variety as I just stacked straight up. I did notice that sometimes I couldn't jump for some reason. It could be some input delay after placing a block and ate the input. I did have fun with it though and beat it on hard, so good job.

It took several attempts to get the hang of the mechanics but I eventually got it. That first pit really is unforgiving, especially in Hard mode. With that said I did enjoy it. So many Pebbles lost to the waters... :stack:

Submitted(+1)

I found the very first jump to be the hardest one, since it's tricky to place blocks side by side and the water rises so quickly. An extra 5-10 second delay on the water rising would help a lot I think, to give time to figure out placing the side by side blocks.

Developer

Thanks for the feedback!  I think maybe it's because it forces you to go horizontally before you have time to build up a vertical lead on the ink.  I posted a version where the ink rises slower with an optional faster mode, so hopefully that lets people cross easier.

Submitted(+1)

Nah man the water is too fast for the speed at which you can place the pebbles. I'd give it 2-3 more seconds before it starts rising. Dig the concept though! Looks like a fun puzzle platformer.

Developer(+1)

Thanks for the feeback!  Yeah, I originally had it slower, but sped it up last minute cause I thought it would be too easy without enemies.  I think 3 seconds was definitely too fast so I posted a version where it's back to the original slower time with a button for optional faster mode now.
