I had a lot of fun! It's pretty straightforward, but side stepping (or side flying i guess) the bullets while getting shots off is fun! And chasing down the enemies to finish them off makes me feel a bit evil but its fun! I only wish there was a bit more to do! But good job!

Developer

Thanks so much for playing! Yeah I still have quite a few things I am busy adding to the game, but I didn't want a big scope to kill my first ever game jam submission😅 but check back in a couple weeks and you might enjoy the new updates!

Very good game. It would be awesome to have a web build.

Developer

Thanks for playing! Yeah I wish I could do a web build. Unfortunately I think Unreal Engine 4 was the last version to be able to do web builds, but I'll have a look around and see what I can do.

I love a good top down shooter and I like the retro filter you have on the game.

Developer

Thanks so much for playing! :)

hey, well made and fun to play game, i had fun playing it, however many mentioned this already but ya, at the beginning i was having difficulty finding enemies for a min or so, i love how u cant just outright run away, That shooting thing tied to movement gave it a nice touch, its either attack or figure how to dodge. Also i didnt rly find quite a vast diff in the simpler graphics vs the modern one. Overall it was a fun to play well done ggs!

Developer

Thanks for playing! Yes, definitely working on making it a little bit more balanced. Also adding some more things to the map to destroy like bases, etc. which should make the "flying around without finding" enemies worthwhile :)

You definitely managed to capture the Seek & Destroy vibe.
The gameplay is simple.

Avoiding enemies was hard because you always shoot in the direction you’re moving.

In one of my runs, I flew somewhere far away and didn’t see any enemies for about a minute. Maybe they’re slower and I just outran them, but it made me feel a bit lost, like I wasn’t sure where I was going, why I was going there, and why nothing was happening.

It could be cool if we had to defend a specific point or objective.

The sound effects are really nice and do a great job of building the atmosphere.

Overall, a nice game.

Developer(+1)

Thank you so much! Yeah I will definitely spend some time on balancing it out a bit as I realise its easy to lose the enemies. Also like your suggestions of adding some more objectives, etc. I'm also already working on a couple things including the controls to make them feel more intuitive. Thanks for playing!

The graphics and sound design are really strong points! The game sure is challenging, but I definitely appreciate it. Using the mouse to rotate the helicopter would have been a great QOL thing as well. Great game Minc!

Developer

Thank you so much! In hindsight I went a bit overboard with the "retro controls" and could have benefitted more from having the mouse turn the camera and let the helicopter move left and right. Definitely going to enhance that post jam! Thanks for checking it out!

I liked the idea the game was soo fun but can you compres it a letelle 430 mb is a lotte for a game mage for a game jam 😅

but in generale its 5/5

Developer

Yeah, unfortunately that's a downside of using Unreal Engine 5 for a mini game jam I guess. lol Firstly it doesn't do web builds and secondly the download size is very large once compiled. Even for a blank UE5 project the size could be close to 300Mb.. Most of that is the engine files itself unfortunately. 😅 Sorry about that! Glad you managed to play it though. Appreciate it!

I liked the idea but hitting enemies felt really clunky due to only being able to fire in the move direction. This coupled with the fact that it was hard to tell if shots hit made the combat a bit frustrating at times. I think rotating the player based on mouse movement and letting a and d be sideways movement as well as making hits more apparent would make the combat a lot more enjoyable. Overall though, well done for your first jam!

Developer

Thanks for the feedback, I really appreciate it! In hindsight I should have allowed turning the helicopter with the mouse and allowed side ways dodging. This is something I am already working on for a post jam release. 🙂  I've also got a couple interesting things being added so I hope you'll check out updates in future! Thanks for playing🎮

I do enjoy these type of games sometimes. 19XX, Akai Katana are examples, especially when they have huge influx of bullets to test my reflexes with lol. But yes, solid entry! it took a while to test because it was quite heavy, I'd admit hahaha.

The gameplay is good, but it's quite difficult to dodge incoming bullets, which made it tough for me to survive longer but for a Solo dev first jam I think you did quite well!

Developer

Thanks for playing! Yes, I tried drawing inspiration from 1993 Seek & Destroy :) I agree the dodging could use a bit of work to make it easier and I am already working on some post jam updates to improve the game a bit. Thanks for the feedback. 🙂

Pretty cool and simple game, but tanks are too OP haha

Developer

Yeah, the tanks are hectic I agree. However there is a way to beat them. If you wait for them to fire, and then fly backwards, they will often miss their shot as they fire where they initially aimed, so their shot will fly over you if you time it right :)

I will definitely work on balancing the game a bit more though! Thank you for the feedback, I appreciate it!

This game is pretty fun. The gameplay is simple but it works. The art and music is pretty amazing though I would say that instead of just putting a pixelated filter you should also limit the amount of color (into a palette) to get the maximum old school style :). Overall, a pretty good game (especially for a first time jamer)

Developer

Thank you for the feedback! I will definitely have a look at that. It did not even occur to me that I should play with the colors as well when changing the pixelation on the game, but you're totally right! Thank you :)

I liked the ability to swap the style of the game play. Couldnt find enemies for about 30 seconds to a min in some cases, but then all of a sudden I had a few on me at once, lol

Well done for a first game jam!

Developer(+1)

Thanks so much for playing! Yeah😅 I realised that the map was a bit big so the enemies took a while to get to you from their spawn points which is generally around 30 seconds. I'll tweak the game a bit and see if I can make it a bit better.

Appreciate the feedback!

Awesome game!

Developer

Thank you so much! Glad you could play :)

The game has nice presentation and that connection to the theme, but it could've been more polished. I've experienced a nice dose of input lag,  that didn't feel intentional. The aiming was also a bit awkward, just waiting for the enemies to shoot out on you and then chase them down. But overall still a nice project for a first game jam.

Developer

Thanks so much for the feedback! 😄 I really appreciate it. Sorry you experienced some input lag, I'll definitely look into that. Now that the game jam is over, I'm thinking about revamping the controls to make aiming with the mouse smoother and dodging more fun. I’ll also work on the enemy behavior so it’s less of a waiting game and more engaging. Thanks for playing!

Hi cool game! I enjoyed the retro graphics and sound effects. The presentation of the game looks good too. The gameplay can be more polished,  as I felt there were long moments without any enemies coming towards me and I was just searching around. Also wished that the controls were more dynamic, like a point your mouse to aim, top down shooter so that I can use the WASD keys to move around while my mouse is shooting. I assume that the rotation to aim was in your design, but more ways to move would be nice. The movement on the helicopter was fine, but was too snappy. I suggest accelerating and deaccelerating the movement as the player moves around, so the helicopter feels heavy to move. Overall a great submission. I played around in both of the visual styles and I enjoyed the game. Good job :D

Developer(+1)

Hi, thank you so much! I really appreciate the feedback. Yes, the movement was by design and inspired by the old Seek & Destroy game from 1993, but I definitely want to enhance the game with more "modern" controls. :) I also really like your suggestion on making the helicopter feel heavier and that's definitely going on my board of things to add to the game. Thank you so much!

I also feel like now that the jam is over, I might add some more intuitive movement to make it a bit easier to move around, as dodging bullets was also a bit hard with the current movement. I'll also definitely tweak the spawn times, etc. a bit so the game feels more balanced and you don't endlessly fly around looking for a fight.  I really appreciate your constructive feedback!
