In my opinion, the only real drawback of the game is the lack of a Web version. The game itself is very good, with different themes, various enemy types, and multiple platformer mechanics. It took me about 5–6 minutes to start and finish the game, and it was very comfortable and easy to play.

As for shortcomings, the only other point — also mentioned in other comments — is that the boss hit feedback felt a bit weak. Adding a slight knockback or a small hit effect could improve the impact.

Overall, this was the best game I played in the jam. Congratulations!

Developer(+1)

Thank you for playing! Knowing that you enjoyed it fills us with happiness. Currently we don't completely know how to make a functional web version of the game, but we'll keep it in mind for the future.

Very well polished and fun game! The mechanics are very well done, I really liked it! But the boss is very frustrating (I know I have a skill issue). If you hit him, he goes invisible, but I don't know if that did damage to him or not. Also, in the tutorial, there is a "jump/space + k to jump higher" thing, but that just crashes the game I think you meant "w + j". But very well done game! Keep up the work!

Developer(+1)

Thank you very much! Indeed, the boss is the roughest part of the game 'cause it was one of the last things we did, though we're planing to launch an update that fixes him, sorry about that T_T

The "Space + K" crash tends to happen because of an error trying to recompile the shaders in the engine we use, just out of curiosity, do you have your graphic card's drivers up to date? It's a crash that tends to happen because of older drivers!

Thanks for the feedback, we appreciate it! ^^

You got the coolest characters in the jam! That's unbelievably amount of content in a week, and I'm so cooked by the boss > <

Developer

Thank you very much! Glad you liked it!

We're planning to fix the boss in a couple of days, sorry about that ^^U

This is one of the few games on the jam that feel like a complete game, rather than a concept for a bigger game or a demo, which is the definition of polished. I don't have words to describe how great the presentation of the game is, especially the character designs. There's only 2 issues I can point out:

- The layouts of the levels are pretty confusing because they have multiple valid routs that all have some gnarlys to collect. Normally, coins or other collectibles in such games are used to indicate the intended way of completing the game and rewarding the player for following it, but when there are multiple routes with rewards it feels like the developers either wanted the player to become quantum positioned (which is just not possible) or backtrack after every obstacle (which is just not cool). Of course, you can just ignore the coins and play however you want, but they remain the reminder that you did something not as it was intended.

- The first time you fight the boss, his attacks are straight up impossible to predict. His attack animations don't show a specific direction of the attack or show how it will behave. For example, the finger shooting lazers attack has the same sprite for shooting 1, 2 and 3 lazers. I'd say adding some sort of a highlight of the area of attack's effect would help with this issue.

Developer(+1)

Thank you very much for the feedback! The idea behind the game is based on replayability, so the different layouts purpose is to take an alternate route every time you replay the level to either freestyle or get faster times, but I do get that it can be confusing at time. We'll definitely gonna take a look at that!

As for the boss, yeah, it's the most rough part of the game as it was one of the last things we added T_T

We're working on a update, so we'll take notes of everything pointed out about the boss and fix it!

Thanks for the feedback and playing! It helps us getting better! ^^

This game is absolutely hilarious. I'm amazed you managed to do all this in a week. I just don't think I had enough frames for the taunt invulnerability, and why can it only be done in mid-air? Anyway, I was McLam Jackson.

Developer(+1)

Thank you very much! The taunt what actually does is give you a little boost of speed, which is reseted after every important action (dashing, killing an enemy, walljumping, etc), so you spam it as much as you can to go faster and get better times!... Though we didn't explain any of that in the game, sorry about that T_T

We'll definitely fix it in the next update!

Thanks for the feedback and playing! Glad you liked it! ^^

Really fun and dynamic game!! Even as someone who doesn’t usually enjoy platformers, I had a great time with this one. The music and visuals are high quality, and the controls feel really smooth and responsive.

My only small issue was the boss fight  at first it was hard to understand what was going on, and I didn’t immediately realize I was supposed to damage the boss since there was no HP bar. Other than that, this is the most polished game I played in this jam!

Developer(+1)

Thank you very much for the feedback! Indeed, the boss needs some tweaks T_T. We'll fix it in a post-jam update!

Thanks for playing! Glad you liked it! ^^

Crazy that this was made in a week. You guys made peak I absolutely love this game and the variety of stage themes too. The final boss took me a couple of tries but it was really fun to learn his patterns. Also nice to see someone else using gamemaker.

Developer(+1)

Thank you very much! The final boss would've worked better with a health bar and some VFX for visual clarity, sorry about that. ^^U

And yeah, GMS gang hereeee, though we're planning to change to GMS 2 'cause the 1.4 version is starting to be kinda problematic T_T

Thanks for playing! Glad you enjoyed it! ^^

The game was perfect in every way! Whether it was the pixel art or the smooth gameplay it was really great. Also the fact that all the levels were different art stye saved the game from being monotonous. The only downside I can think of was that the boss didn't have a health bar but other than that, everything about it was beautiful!

Developer(+1)

Thank you for playing the game! And thank you for the feedback, we understand how important is to have a health indicator for the bosses. I don't know how we forgot that.

this game DESERVES to win the jam. how yall made this in one week i have no idea. make more levels of this cuz the parkour potential is insane. 10/10

Developer

Thank you! It could be really interesting to create more levels just to use Avlo's mechanics. We're considering the idea!

This is my favorite game I've played in this jam so far, and I'd be shocked if anything beats this. This is incredible work.

Your arty style is not only cohesive and visually nice to look at, but there's a LOT of creativity, especially in the different backgrounds. Your character design is AMAZING too.

The gameplay is so snappy and fluid.  There's a lot of skill expression, and there's a lot of really awesome intense moments in platforming across the level. Good controls isn't always easy, but you guys nailed it.

The last level (won't spoil it) was a nice surprise and a solid challenge. The music and SFX design is great and fits so well.

I'm pretty blown away with this game. It transported me right back to playing Sonic on the GameBoy as a kid. You guys should seriously consider turning this into a full scale project.

I really have no notes, which is pretty rare for me. Y'all cooked HARD. Great work.

Developer(+1)

Thank you very much!

Indeed, the skill expression is the core of the game! Both the style and gameplay of the game were our main focus, so we spent every second we could in the movement, level design and overall appeal of the game.

We're really happy that you enjoyed the game, it helps us a ton to keep making games. Once again, thank you very much for playing and for your kind words! ^^
