Game engine / program used
We used pure JavaScript (vanilla JS, no frameworks) . For rendering we used HTML5 Canvas API. The game draws everything to a <canvas> element using 2D context drawing commands (drawImage, fillRect, arc, etc.) And there are no external engines. It's a custom built game from scratch!

Connection to the theme (short sentence)
We took 'Simpler Times' literally. A caveman from the simplest era of human history dives into the ocean in this retro style arcade game that captures the straightforward fun of classic gaming.

Really cool game. I'm very surprised that the game was made in JS!

Pretty wicked that you did this in JS, I think it turned out really well (I didn’t even realize until I came back and read the game engine used!). Gameplay was kind of hectic and hard to get used to, but maybe that’s just a skill issue on my end lol, won’t count it against you

+++ for the cool S on the title screen too

The game is generally good, the only slightly bad thing is that the bullets are very small

Wow I'm really impressed this was done in javascript! Good amount of enemies and very good amount of challenge. I also really like the difficulty settings that you've added. Art is cute and the sounds are satisfying. Good work!

I seen quite a few entries with a difficulty select but this is the first I have seen with a custom mode. It was cool to mess with all the different slider in custom mode. Also making this in JavaScript is quite impressive. good job.

Seeing it's made with pure JS, that's impressive. Game is well made, FX are great. Simple and fun!
