I love the whole concept but like a few others mentioned it falls on the unfair side. Honestly I think it's the general roughness that's the biggest hinderance; sometimes the Brats would bounce to somewhere unreachable, the clickbox for the pumps are too narrow for the frantic speed. Me personally, I think like a Minimap that had alerts would've been perfect.
With that said, this entry is still solid and I would love to see this develop into a fleshed out game. Great work!
Thanks for playing! The Brat physics was kind of a late addition so admittedly I didn't manage to get it working quite as well as I wanted. The hitboxes in general is something I'll be fine tuning for the post jam update. The threat tracking is also something I'm still working on a solution for so thanks for the minimap suggestion!
Tough game, but works super well. I like how the brats enable parallelizing tasks. Tons of room for 4D chess. Played on controller via steam input and had a blast. I feel like you could take this so many neat places with future updates. Looking forward to it if you continue!
I'm glad you enjoyed! I would like to have it play on a steam deck so I intend to add controller support in the future.
Hard as hell but fun! Love the models <3
Thank you very much! I've been working on upgrading the models so look forward to that in a post jam update!
Nice work on modelling the ship, Bae and the Brats.
I liked the chaotic experience! Definitely would've felt that chaos even more with audio!
My ship kept blowing up! I dunno why but it seems Brats stopped working mid-repair while I was not looking.
Some improvement suggestions:
- I found that Brats would not go into the broken walls all the time. Sometimes they would just sit around and chill. Not sure if intended.
- Also sometimes I couldn't pick up a Brat from the floor to send them into a wall for repairs, so I'd lose precious seconds running to the fab to make a new one.
- The panels losing integrity faster than the brats can repair them felt unfair. If you only notice the panel after it's reached 50% or less, it's guaranteed game over. I feel it would be better if the degradation slows down or stops if repairs are already under way.
- Also, having a just repaired panel blow up increases the difficulty, since in your mind that panel is already getting fixed by a Brat.
- Needs a mouse sensitivity slider setting. The camera was turning quite fast for my taste, even though it's a chaotic game it shouldn't also make me dizzy. XD
- I feel Bae's turning speed is a bit slow. Sometimes I couldn't get her to face the right spot to drop a fuel canister or aim the Brat to the right wall.
- Would be cool if there was an on screen indicator showing that there's an unattended failing wall behind me. Since there's no audio, you need other ways to tell the player how the ship is doing.
- I wish the Defeat screen also told you how much fuel you had loaded, so you have an idea of how close/far you were from the goal.
- The timer in the "Your ship exploded in XXXXX!" doesn't reset every round. It keeps going up and up with every retry.
- I feel the game is a bit too hard. The best I could do is 35% fuel load before time ran out because I needed to keep fabbing new brats to repair the ship.
Good game! I hope you continue improving it after the jam!Thank you for the detailed analysis! I think several of the issues you encountered stem from the fact that I didn't make it clear that the interaction point is from the center of the camera rather than from Bae's facing. I did add a small dot crosshair but when I added in the Bae model afterwards I realized a bit too late that it blends right into her hat. I hope once I make some changes it'll become clear that picking up things and interacting with nodes is solely determined by pointing and click on them.
As for the mouse sensitivity slider, there actually is one if you hit escape while in play. I should have added a settings button on the main title screen but it was one of the many things I ran out of time for.
Great catch on the play time on defeat bug! I forgot to hook the resetting of it up so that will be fixed in the post jam update. I do agree that the defeat screen should have more stats on it. I had considered adding some kinda high score board but in its current state I wasn't exactly sure what to measure. I do have some ideas for it in the future though. Thank you very much for playing!
I really like the inspiration here, turning a small mechanic into an entire game is a great idea!
I do think it can be a little difficult as well, but it looks like you've already got some plans to update after the jam is done, so I won't gripe on that. To be honest, I could barely manage to even track what was the main culprit since I couldn't really manage the fuel because I was running around trying to repair everything lol
But I think either reducing the chance of a previously repaired console from breaking for a short time after fixing, or slightly increasing the amount of fuel given could help. But maybe I just didn't utilize the brats well enough.
I think its awesome you managed to do all this solo, and I honestly love the fact that you can pick the brats up and throw them around, such a fun mechanic. Also great job on bae's model!
Definitely want to come back and check it out after some updates, great work!
Thanks for playing! I do agree that tracking what all was going on was more difficult than I'd like. I think making you fuel the warp drive to progress added just one too many things vying for your attention, so I think one of the major shifts I'm going to make is to just have the warp drive charge itself automatically so that I can focus all of the player's attention on repairs and managing the Brats.
I'm glad you liked the Bae model! I had to make compromises to get it done within the time frame, but I'm currently doing a makeover on it now to get more fidelity in and I'm pretty happy with its progress. I have a lot of ideas I'm excited to try out so I'm looking forward to the post jam update!
The game is pretty chaotic, but in a good way at times. Sound would've really added to this as audio cues could tell you if there's something close to failing. The detection for what you can interact with is kind of loose as I couldn't target the brats jumping up and down well, which basically made each one one-use only. It also sucks that their repair speed is slow enough that if you don't get them to help repair at a certain point, it'll just fail as you're trying to do other things. Probably would help if the bar doesn't decrease if it's actively being repaired. I did manage to win by constantly spawning the brats and tossing them as needed, but this is a very difficult game to win. The idea is there, just needs a bit of polish in the controls and you'll have some controlled chaos.
Congrats on winning! I appreciate the detailed re of your experience with the game! I do plan on doing some post jam tweaks that'll hopefully address some of the issues. Thanks for playing and thanks for the suggestions!
Pure chaos. Fantastic.
It took me awhile to realize the Brats can fix things on their own. Maybe I should learn to read... Fantastic job to manage all of this solo, it was a lot of fun, and the art and animations look great for a jam.
Sadly I never won, but I enjoyed the chaos, and trying out different strategies to see what did or didn't work. :D
To be fair, I didn't really explain what Brats did in-game. Brats were kind of a late edition and I spent all my time getting them to work without bugging out. Glad you liked the art! I'll be spending more time to improve the visuals for a post jam update.
Thank you for playing and glad you had fun!
It is really tough, since there is so much chaos around. I would suggest that the timer on the broken wall should stop once the repair start as I would often fail mid-repair. After polishing the pick-up detection, it would be a fun game
I think that's an idea worth trying out! I originally thought that since you can stack repairs with multiple brats that the timer running down while repair might add some decision making over whether to ride the timer out or to try and get more repairs, but I think with as frantic as things get this kinda decision making never really plays out. Thanks very much for the suggestion and for playing!
Goodness gracious this game is really chaotic. Really lives up to the name lol.
For a GameJam, yea this game is really hard, but I can see the vision. The closest I got to winning is just to use the coffee while overloading the fuel and I got to 90% before losing because I missed one wall hidden behind on the opposite side.
Anyways still a pure adrenaline rush game, and would probably be better if there's a BGM on the background.
Thanks for playing! 90% is really good! I agree with it needing BGM. It's something I'm hoping to update it with after the jam concludes, along with sound effects. I'm hoping the audio cues will help bring attention to threats that are outside of view.
It took me around 1,5h but I finally beat it!
But overall it was pretty fun and challenging, brats flying everyone, tons of coffee and utter chaos, I had a great time playing this <3 Great job!
Thanks for the detailed review and congrats on beating it! I ran out of time to do a proper tutorial so I had hoped that things were intuitive enough to understand and seems like you nailed it!
I think aiming at things will be easier when I change the crosshair to be more noticeable, I might offset the camera to the side so that Bae is not blocking what you're trying to grab as well. As for grabbing bouncing brats, it was originally much more difficult because the hitbox was the size of their body. I enlarged it to be the a bit larger than the actual model, but it's definitely still difficult to grab them while they're bouncing. Though a thought just occurred to me to make it so that holding click could put you into a catch mode so you can sweep up nearby moving brats.
Labeling the dispensers was something that I had intended but again ran out of time for. At first I was thinking of making them also able to break in which they wouldn't fabricate anything until repaired, but I think with the hectic pacing of the game it would've been too difficult to lose such important assets.
As for the QoL suggestion, that is an interesting way to add a diegetic means of tracking broken panels. I was thinking of making the wrench something you could pull out and it'd pop up arrows showing where the broken panels were, similar to how it worked in Warframe's Railjack mode. Losing track of what panels were broken is something that I ran into a lot too, which is why on loss it snaps the camera to look at the panel that ran out of timer. I mainly did this to make sure that losses came from actual timeouts and not some bug.
Thank you very much for playing my game! I'm glad you had fun!
I think the interactions are too picky about position and direction, given the janky movement. I found myself struggling more to pick things up and use them than with figuring out what to do.
I think I understand where your frustrations are coming from. The interactions are based on the center of camera which I tried to highlight with a dot crosshair, but I made a poor choice of color of it being white and blending into Bae's hat. I see now that it would be likely that players would assume that interactions should be based on Bae's facing instead. I should have either offset the camera to the side and changed the color the crosshair. Was this the issue you had or am I misreading the problem? Either way, thanks for giving my game a try and sharing your experience!
I definitely was not aware of the crosshair. I thought I had to make Bae face the things and be in front of them.
Its really tough to manage everything at once, but its fun!
Thank you very much for playing! I was planning on curving out the difficulty a bit so that it' starts easier and then progressively gets more difficult over time but I ran out of time. I plan to give it a try post jam though!
I think it's broken for me, unfortunately
Oh, what happened? Is it not launching the game or did it break after the game launched? Also if you could also let me know what operating system you're using it'd help a lot with trouble shooting. Either way, thank you very much for trying!
My screen flashing shapes like this when i open the game. If I hit play it keep going but I can rotate camera but I don't see anything remarkable. I am using Windows 10.
Thanks for the details! It sounds like it might be a GPU driver issue. Could you let me know which graphics card you use, and if possible what version driver you're running? Seems like there's been reports of newer AMD drivers breaking Godot's 3D rendering so I'm curious if that might be the issue here. This game was made using Godot's forward+ renderer so if your driver has compatibility issues with Vulkan-based renderers then that might be an issue too.
Any additional info you can provide is greatly appreciated! Thanks again for taking the time to troubleshoot with me.
I do use AMD GPU. But I never encountered problems with Vulkan renders when I tried them. Drivers 25.10.30.02. It should be current version (at least AMD soft says so)
It seems that users have reported issues with that version with specifically Godot's Forward+ renderer, which is what I used. Do you know if you've played any other game that uses Godot's Forward+? I'm curious if it's just that entire renderer or if maybe it's something more specific to my project. Though I don't believe I'm using any special shaders. Allegedly there's a version 25.12.1 of the AMD Adrenalin driver that's supposed to solve this issue. Alternatively rolling back to 25.9.2 or 25.6.1 reportedly also solves the issue.
I played games on Godot from this Jam but i don't know about Forward+. And I am sorry but i most likely will not roll back drivers just to check. Sorry
No worries, thank you for all the help troubleshooting! I'll have to research more into how to get around this issue. I might just have to build a compatibility version.
