Felt really interesting to play: a text-adventure that shapes up the actual battle was a great idea.
I loved the theme---the color choices, artwork, and aesthetics are all great. The options came with great storytelling, and detailed descriptions. Loved reading the story of my character as my ship loses every piece of armor, haha.
One thing I noticed in the final ship phase was that it lagged for a bit on my laptop while switching scenes. I think providing a small transition there could be great. However, that's purely on my hardware issue.
Great job!
Really great worldbuilding! I wish there was some info about your stats as the game progressed, I kept losing track of how much armour I had lost. This is a very cool concept!
The story bit was nice and refreshing. I like that the story bits you get at the beginning are randomised. I was not sure if the ships had different stats, but I think the actions were not resetting inbetween rounds. So at the 4th or 5th try I always started with 1 HP, because I lost armor in the story bits in previous tries. Still a great concept, Good Job!
Thanks for your feedback! It was intended for the results of your choices to be permanent but the system is really undercooked and seems random and arbitrary to the player.
Great concept with this one. I'd like to see this taken further, the story mixed in with everything was great. Well done!
Wow this is so well made. Sounds/music is sick, the ingame background looks super cool and the how the decisions at the start build the character is a nice concept. Great job!
The gameplay & idea is dope. Great work! But I think the "character" in character customization is kinda frustrated here. Because I thought the customization was about the ship and the rest is gameplay, but reading your description, The character is the story. I think it could be more specific.
Sorry to hear that, there seems to be a hang early on but it should play fine after that. Do you have GPU acceleration turned off in your browser by chance? That's a common issue I run into with doing 3d in web games.
Super cool!
You really went for a style and stuck with it, I really loved it!
My only suggestion would be to make the slider with the color more visible, because I didn't realize that it was a slider at first and I bet a lot of people will miss it!
Otherwise a very good entry! :D
The experience of every single option you choose being negative whilst you slowly wither and wilt out in space is really something to behold. Genuinely hoping for this to make it to Round 2 so I can play it more. Fantastic job!
Nice entry, I loved the recap of your decisions at the end!
I noticed a long hangup (I'm on firefox, thought it was frozen) at the start of the combat phase, maybe initializing lighting and particles at the start of the game would prevent this.
For customization, I think it would help the player understand the effects if there were a stats panel or something showing current values for everything that events can affect.
There are two ways someone could judge how easy it is to customize the character here (going #2 on yours):
1) I have no idea what will happen when I click a choice, so it is not easy.
2) Events inevitably customize the character, so it is easy in that it happens in the course of narrative without additional input.
The music, narrative, and aesthetic were well done, good job!
Thanks for the feedback, a stats panel is a great idea, wish I would have thought of it! As for judging customization I would personally lean towards 1 as being fair, I didn't intend for it to be as opaque as it is but I got into the weeds on some other issues and was just glad to have something submittable. My original intent was to give hints as to what would be effected but not how so the player could decide if they wanted to gamble.
I think the hangup is related to audio resource loading on the web build as it started after an SFX pass late in development and doesn't occur in the native builds.
I see you gota whole story in mind here, very solid, needs polishing but has potential.
I would appreciate it if you check mine out.
Hope the AI art is gonna be gone in next round ;)
Game crashed or lagged extremely the first couple of battles, seems it hits some kinda infinitely loop. Worked after that.
Definitely something to build on and with enough luck, the player can make a good ship. A little too much dependent on luck for my taste.
The amount of modeling you had to do for this is crazy. Very impressive, and great looking models. I would like a bit more detail than just color, but that's an update for a future version. I also love the FTL type storytelling. Feels really cool and cohesive.
The only issues I had were of the actual battles. The background is cool, but makes it hard to see the bullets. Maybe make the bullets sprite a touch larger even if the hitbox stays the same? Overall, this is a submission to be very proud of.
The excellent ship models were from opengameart.org so that user deserves the credit there, I forget his name but I listed him in the credits in the title menu. I'll definitely keep your feedback in mind if the opportunity to continue work on it is there, much appreciated!
