I’ve posted a video playtest and my feedback of your project in your discord channel :)

Developer

Thank you for the video,I’m really sorry about the bugs you ran into. I truly appreciate your patience, and your reactions were genuinely entertaining. Thanks for your time.

Watching you learn the game's weird rules and try new things has given me really valuable feedback.

Hello! I got it working :D You were right, I just needed to wait a bit longer, it was just a little confusing since it looked like it was stuck at 90%. Anyway, here's my feedback and a recording of my playtesting session.

What was the most frustrating moment in what you experienced?

- In the UX department something feels too fiddly with the inventory. I couldn't rotate ice creams with the scroll wheel (but 'R' did work). When it came to making recipes it also felt like there was a little too much clicking when trying to make the ice creams. - maybe if the player puts the ingredients in the blender the game could pick up automatically what recipe they were trying to make? I'm not sure how that would work if the player put extra ingredients in though...

What was your favorite part of the game?

- The look of the game is fantastic. It's really cozy and cute, and has a great colour palette. I really like the 'vibes' of the game so to speak. It reminds me a lot of Minami Lane - but with ice cream.

Was there anything you wanted to do, but the game didn’t let you?

- I kept trying to left click and drag ingredients from one inventory panel to the other but it wouldn't let me. The interaction I wanted would work if I right clicked though, which the game was telling me was the 'select all' option. If we could get the left click working like the right click that would be great.

If you had a magic wand where you could change any part of the game, regardless of cost or complexity, what would you add/change/remove?

- Not sure if this is already there in later levels but a way to increase your ice cream empire would be great. Like having multiple carts, upgrade to an ice cream van...be able to buy things to automate some of the making of the ice cream. That would be fantastic.

What would you say you were doing in the game?

- Making ice cream and then selling it to people in my cart.

How would you describe the game to friends and family?

- Cute ice cream selling game!

A couple of other notes I just wanted to mention:

- The English is a little off in some sections. It's mostly the grammar. It doesn't happen all the time but enough where it pulled me out of the game at a couple of points. Not a huge deal for the demo, but it is something I would look into before releasing it properly.

- The inventory screen that showed me how many ice creams I had left didn't show if I clicked it when it was in a 'paused' state. The other two buttons at the top worked while paused though.

- I really liked that you added the expected keyboard binds with pausing, playing and increasing the speed. That's a nice touch.

- At one point I tried to make multiple batches of ice cream. It worked great when blending it up, let me stack two lots on top of each other...but then when I froze it, it only gave me one batch when I expected to get two, since I put two batches of the juice in. Not sure if that's a bug or intended. If it is intended then maybe it would be a good idea to either not let the player put multiple batches in, and also make it a bit more clear how many ice creams they should expect to get out of how much they put in.

- On the shop upgrades screen it was giving me prices for things in both tokens and dollars - but I couldn't see a way to pay via dollars (or how much money in dollars that I had.)

I think with some tweaks this could be really great! This kind of management style game is really my thing, so I'm looking forward to seeing what this is like on full release :)

Developer

Glad you got it working and thanks for the recording and the all the detailed feedbacks!
We made an inventory bug fix in the last build, but it made it worse for somethings I guess. Sorry you had to experience a rough game :)

I'll definitely ping you when we have a better build to play so we get your refined game-feel suggestion and ideas on the genre.
And also, yeah Minami Lane was totally an inspiration for the game from the start, you got that totally right!
Cheers; Sinan

Hey The Puzzle Wizard! I just played this - here's my feedback. This is a weird one for me as it is one of the most polished games I have played from the IGC discord and its well polished as well, not a polished turd but like a well made thing that is very polished but then at the same time there are a quite a few things that frustrated me with it and I ended up stopping pretty early. I think it has loads of potential but also needs some work as I found it sometimes unenjoyable to interact with (sorry if that sounds mean).

What was the most frustrating moment in what you experienced?

I actually found a few things frustrating so I am going to say a few things here - sorry but hopefully you find this helpful. The tutorial was quite irritating and intrusive - I think the way it dropped out as if it was done and then popped back like a second later was really annoying after a while as you never knew when it was actually finished. The recipe making and shopping and the general interaction with the inventory was frustrating - I really wanted to just be able to pick up an item and move it around, seems like the main way you use grid based inventories but in this game clicking on it made it move over automatically and I didn't seem to be able to rearrange and rotate etc. I found the camera controls a bit frustrating and weird.

What was your favorite part of the game?

Visuals and general level of polish. I also liked that the Grandma called me sweetie at the beginning :-) I think this is a really charming game and has lots of potential

Was there anything you wanted to do, but the game didn’t let you?

Easily pick stuff up and move it around etc in the inventory, it kept just jumping across which was super annoying.

If you had a magic wand where you could change any part of the game, regardless of cost or complexity, what would you add/change/remove?

Basically to change the things that I said were frustrating above.

What would you say you were doing in the game?

Running an ice cream stall

How would you describe the game to friends and family?

A game about making ice cream and selling it and an ice cream stall

Developer

Thank you for your honest feedback, it really helps us what to focus on next. Sorry you had a rough game. Honestly the inventory system changed a lot of times and I think we still struggle with it both from a game design, UX point and from a technical point. We need a total revamp there I guess :)
Your frustration notes actually really helped me see what are the most pain points. Thank you!
Would you mind having another play at some time in the future after we changed some of this issues, is that a genre you like?

Hey there, yeah I'm down for giving it another go for sure. I was thinking about this afterwards and I think I was so critical because it's so polished, like if this had been looking less polished then I think I would of been more accepting but because it looks like a finished game I kind of had the expectation that I would get super polished mechanics as well. Ping me on the IGC discord when you want it played as I don't look that often on here. I'm Samwidges in the discord by the way - sorry, I use different names all over the place because I am a bit disorganised lol.

Developer

Yeah, no worries! Direct feedback is always more helpful during playtests. Game being polished visually but not mechanically is totally a classic gamedev mistake situation we found ourselves in :).

Hi thepuzzlewizard! This feels like a really interesting concept!

Though while there is definite potential here, I feel like you need to go back and redo the flow for the purchasing and item creation section, it is quite tedious and pretty easy to break the menu flow especially where the recipe book

Had a bug where on my ultra wide monitor where the inventory was offset to the left of the mouse pointer and couldn't select the items when hovering directly over them. As well as many of the UI items being obscured off the edges of the screen. It was fine when not playing fullscreen, but the Unity window is quite small so its hard to read the text.

For your feedback questions:

What was the most frustrating moment in what you experienced?

How intrusive the tutorial was, especially the basic controls tutorial. You are using standards such as WASD, mouse scroll etc. I am unsure why this needs to be tutorialised to the player and why it can't just be skipped.

What was your favorite part of the game?

The visuals, the game is very cute!

Was there anything you wanted to do, but the game didn’t let you?

Have some kind of interaction with the customers as they were coming in, outside of being able to see their stats

If you had a magic wand where you could change any part of the game, regardless of cost or complexity, what would you add/change/remove?

Simplified inventory management and some kind of interaction during the service (I know this is 2 but I feel like they are both super important)

What would you say you were doing in the game?

Making and selling icecream

How would you describe the game to friends and family?

An icecream stall tycoon game.

You might want to check out your windows build, itch has flagged it as a scam and quarantined it for some reason.

I'm  sorry that this came off a little negative. Contrary to everything I'm really looking forward to where you take this because with a few tweaks and fixes it is definitely a game I can see myself putting a bunch of time into.

Developer (1 edit)

Hi, super helpful feedbacks. Thank you! Especially the negative feedbacks help us what to focus on the game next so, no worries! I appreciate the notes.
I haven't tested on an ultra-wide monitor but definitely will look into this. Thanks for letting us know.
Sorry for the scam warning. You tried to download with itch's client on windows? I can download in on web without a scam warning and scanned with antivirus software as well. I don't know what's the issue there but I'd like to fix it.

Hello! Have you had any feedback regarding the web version not working? I tried it a couple times this evening and it gets to about 90% loaded but just sits there.  I can try again tomorrow too, but wasn't sure if the issue was on my end.

Developer(+1)

Hi! Sorry you had issue starting the game. I had someone on discord mentioning it doesn't loading the earlier build but other than that it looks like working? Its not optimized for webGL at all and a big game so it may take a while to load. If you need any other platform build I can add it later today?

  • What was the most frustrating moment in what you experienced?
    • By far the most frustrating part of the game is the crafting of the recipes. There is way too much clicking from one menu to another and dragging from this inventory to that inventory. And then you leave a successfully blended batch in the blender before moving to the freezer and when you go back to get it it is gone from that inventory and you must start over. Very frustrating. What was even more frustrating for me was the timing mini game involved in the crafting process. In general it feels necessary and punishing for a game genre that in my opinion is supposed to be chill and get its challenge from the logistical management aspects of the game. The worst is when you successfully blend a recipe only to fail in chilling it…
  • What was your favorite part of the game?
    • I enjoyed the art direction. I think this style is very charming and fitting for the type of game you are going for.
  • Was there anything you wanted to do, but the game didn’t let you?
    • I would have preferred a more face to face interaction with each customer rather than the sort of auto purchase mechanic that is in the game. Not sure if a first person pov might be a better option?
  • If you had a magic wand where you could change any part of the game, regardless of cost or complexity, what would you add/change/remove?
    • Revamped crafting and inventory management system
  • What would you say you were doing in the game?
    • Managing an ice cream stand. Crafting stock, setting prices and choosing a location.
  • How would you describe the game to friends and family?
    • Ice cream stand management sim

One small final note would be that I didn't even realize I had the recipe for lemon pops until I had unlocked the recipe for cherry pops and did a further investigation of my recipe book. Only to then discover I still could not buy lemons and make the old folk happy.

Thank you for posting and using FFWWDD questionnaire method to answer as well. I originally had watched the video, but I totally forget using it :)
