Building is fun, but movement is very unpredictable on these builds. Maybe limiting where the wheels etc can go would give a smoother experience on how to interact with obstacles etc.
I had a huge fps drop in the drop section and just got too frustrated to continue playing. Sorry :(. It was a lot of fun being able to add parts from my enemies to myself and making boosters to get over blocks. SFX was clear and obvious! Music was not distracting and filled in the void. It was very impressive that you were able to make such a complicated system in such a short time.
Thanks! Yeah I've started to see the fps drop reported by a lot of people playing the HTML build sadly. I appreciate all the kind words!
Great use of the theme!
I like the concept, though had a difficult time with it. I think the early level has too many obstacles. Early on it would be nice if it was a bit easier to allow the player to experiment a bit more before needing to get thrusters and dealing with bumps and barriers. My first time I got stuck and had to remodel, one of my wheels went rolling off, which also limited my options for new designs.
I made it over to a bridge area that could be destroyed. When I fell down the screen zoomed out, and the game became very laggy. My character had also fallen onto its side, and with the lag I was not able to do much to try to right it. I clicked on the parts I could see, and clicked to remodel. Unfortunately, some of my parts fell behind the fallen bits of bridge and could not be recovered. I used what I had to try making a thruster based robot, but found it to want to tip over when using the thrusters. I had three, with one straight down, and one at each front and back with a slight, maybe 30 degree angle, away from the center, hoping it would offer some balance. Whenever I used the thrusters I would quickly tilt one way or the other and fall onto my side. With time and practice I could probably get it working, but the assembly could also use a bit of UI improvement. My biggest issue was not knowing where things would connect. I'd often drag part to where I want them, only to have them return to the top. I ended up generally connecting things in the middle to get them to stay, which was not an optimal location. I see that some pivot and tried using that, but while the initial gun mounted fine on the right side, I had trouble getting it onto the left side, even after rotating it. I think it would be nice if you added an indicator on any mounting points, and gave a brief description of how things connect. If the assembly was clearer I'd have tried more, as I like the idea a lot, but the large number of obstacle right at the start and not finding the assembly intuitive made it more frustrating than fun. I did still experiment with the parts I had and made the combined boxes, big and small, that I assume are tougher, as well as the upgraded thruster.
I appreciate the honest feedback! I'm currently constructing a total rework of this game for another Jam so I preciate knowing the critical points I need to improve on for it!
i'm always a sucker for spore-style 'build your character' gameplay, so this was really neat. great job!
This is such a good theme implementation.
Building your robot from spare parts you are discovering is so creative and fun. Combining parts into new ones is also great addition. Dark green-glowy environmmnet builds a good athmosphere.
What I was missing was ability to rotate parts in build mode (I hope I just didn't missed a button for it). Unfortunatelly I also didn't get far, because I got stuck in part where you fall down and I guess you need to use nozzles to get over a small bump, but after falling I was always rotated in a way that nozzles were not aiming a ground (therefore no flying for me).
Still - I was enjoying the game and I think I might get back later to try again.
Great work!
If you ever want to try again, the rotate button is the little green dot, drag it around and the guns and thrusters will face it! Thank you for the kind words and feedback
The audio makes me feel nauseous but the part building is really cool! I love the little guy's facial expressions. The game softlocks if you remodel your guy in the beginning though and it would be great if there was a quick restart button. I'm not sure what's wrong with my browser but it was really laggy after I shot through the floor gate. The game my team made also had a part building feature but we still need to fix some gamebreaking bugs
Some more wheels would be nice if you die in the beginning, it's very easy to tip over
Its easy to miss in the explanation but when you remodel you can pick up the pieces you drop upon death as well!
Very well theme implementation, good job! Enjoyed tinkering around with builds quite a bit.
I loved that robot guys facial expressions! Very cute and it seemed to like what I was doing or give me the evil face >:D Very original and a bit nostalgic.
After reading the clumsy and a bit lengthy textural intro to the game a few times I could figure out how to play the game actually.
Very nice use of the main theme! On top a very original game!
Coming from someone who attempted to make a game like this before, I am impressed you were able to have something playable. Nicely done!!
Man the idea looks so fun! However, the gameplay felt very janky and non functional. I understand that I didnt fully get meta and the best way to play, but from first looks, its very hard to realize what I am supposed to do, and how im supposed to build the robot. Make a tutorial man
Very fair point, I made this for a game jam and simply ran out of time to make the tutorial. But that'll be first on my priority list when I work on the next update!
