This game is really cool!! (get it? because of the ice, hehe)
The spritework is really good, it's cohesive and serves perfectly for the chosen aesthetics. The music is great too, it stablishes the environment really well, I could listen to it so much time. The gameplay is easy to understand and goes really fluid. The difficulty is high but fair, that's something really hard to achieve. The upgrade system keeps the game diverse and evolving, but I think it's a bit slow.
Sometimes, older games used to restart the game from the beginning when you loose. In terms of difficulty, that's still fair, but it's certainly tedious. The point is that I think it's contradictory to use that system when there's a password to go back to the same part of the game. There's no reason to restart from the beginning if you can use the password, it only makes the player to loose time. If the player wants to retry, it would be better just to start from the same round you lost and just use a password if wants to continue later.
Really great entry, I appreciate the charisma and the gameplay, great job!
Finally someone who appreciates my music!!!11!
First of all thank you very much for playing :3
A “try again” option is something I also thought about. It’s a nice idea and actually very essential. Don’t ask me why it’s not in there (because then I would have to admit that I forgot it :c)
We planned to replace the password with safe slots anyway because the password is more of a gimmick than a useful feature (unless you don’t have a hard drive).
Fortnite
The game really reminded me of old arcade games. It’s challenging and well done. The art design fits the theme and the game nicely. I did experience some issues with the mouse controls from time to time, but since you’ve already noticed and mentioned that issue, I won’t go into it. Is the game endless, or does it have an ending? Overall, it’s a very nice piece of work for a first jam experience.
Thank you for playing.
I’m tbh not sure if I’m allowed to fix the mouse translating, but it’s definitely on my TODO list :D
It’s endless and we plan to add more variations and gameplay mechanics to reward higher rounds.
This is btw also our first real game we made beside a smol Ebiten demo we did a few weeks ago, so hearing it’s well done means a lot to us <333
Nice job, I've never heard of Ebiten before. From a gameplay standpoint, I would speed up the game overall. The shooting, enemies, and how long the round is feels drawn out and you'd want your player to feel the ramp up.
Good job! I would like a faster round and more types of enemies. It's cool for the first jam!
I love this one, but the mouse feels very strange for some reason. Also, I feel like the waves could be half as long as they are. I was too short on gems to get any upgrades, then the next wave lasted so long I died before even upgrading anything lol.
I think the mouse feels so strange because I translate it from the “real” mouse into the game buffer image (which is not the whole screen). I will try to fix it in an update after the jam or add game settings.
You’re actually not supposed to have an 15 crystal upgrade before round 3. There is the Attack Upgrade for 2 Crystals (next level gets more expensive) which you could get. The shop gets randomized after every round.
Thank you very much for playing :D
Good entry I like the upgrade shop system in the game. Also using an old school password system for saves really fits the theme. One mechanic I thought was really cool was the ice that wouldn't let you make snowballs while standing on it.
Glad to hear that, thank you for playing!
