Such a cool mechanic that I imagine was really quite difficult to make! Well done :)

Developer(+1)

Glad you liked it, thank you!

It took a bit to figure out how to use a mask to make the cut appear on the newspaper. Piece creation was relatively easy, just create a poly and line up the sprite. The collider for it however was a pain and as you probably noticed it's still very buggy :)

This was weirdly fun?? I have never made a random note before but I found the collage-y / craft-y nature of this weirdly therapeutic and it felt so satisfying to finish the messages.

There were parts where some of the letters I'd cut out would disappear somewhere I couldn't see, and sometimes I had trouble picking the letters up. I could only pick them up if I clicked on a very specific spot (usually the bottom right hand side of a letter) - not sure what was happening there.

Really fun game and cool take on the theme!! I enjoyed this game a lot

Developer

Thank you, i'm glad you had fun.

The cutting and piece creation is quite buggy due to the polygon creation. I didn't do a good job of validating the points for piece polygon creation so there's all sorts of issues with it. The dissapearing one happens because the creation outright crashes when poly edges intersect or touch.

I had issues with small pieces and cutting what I wanted. I wish there was a line cut tool instead of using a lasso type of tool I understand that would of been hard to implement. Creative use of the them and good job with implementation!

Developer

Actually that's a good idea and it's not hard to implement. Right now i'm recording a point whenever the mouse moves and create a polygon when click is released. I could switch it so a point is created on every click and the cut is completed when you click on or close to the starting point. Thanks!

Very clever idea for a game!

As a non-Brit, I couldn't tell if these were real newspapers or a clever invention on your part. I fear that they're real!

I was unable to drag most of my cut letters. They would not respond to the mouse. Unfortunately, I was unable to complete a menacing note.

Developer

Really sorry the bugs prevented you from completing notes.

The newspaper headlines are indeed real :)

Pieces kept getting stuck but apart from that I really loved the concept and was keen to get creative with my ransom notes.  Writing out "You parked like a twat" like it was a threat felt very cathartic, so thank you for giving me that experience.

Developer

Haha, glad you found it cathartic :).

Wonderful concept! I had a good time picking which papers and letters to use of each of the letters. Some of the pieces got stuck but overall very nice entry!

Developer(+1)

Thank you, glad you liked it!

Perfect idea and representation of the theme, for sure! Cutting a piece and then cutting around the empty space made a duplicate of that piece, and everything started to bug, but the concept is perfect and had fun doing some notes :)

Developer

Thank you! It is indeed quite buggy but glad you had fun.

A really interesting idea and concept.

Though the cut/paste mechanic can be a bit janky when dealing with small parts (like when the letters you want to cut from the newspaper are too small) which makes it impossible to drag the cut part.

Nonetheless it's fitting the theme quite well imo.

Developer

Thank you! Yeah, if the letters are too small they're hard to pick up. Too big and they're hard to stick in the right place.

The opening animations really fit the overall aesthetic of the game, which really solidified it's interpretation of the theme. I appreciate the sandbox-ness of this, correctness of letters or not, just making cutouts is enjoyable on it's own. It seems like you really enjoyed making all the magazines to snip from, and that's well reflected in the game :)

Developer

Thank you, I'm glad you liked it. However I did not make the newspaper front pages. As crazy as it seems, that is a genuine newspaper in the UK and those are actual front pages :)

Well, you curated great ones then ! They all had me laughing

Submitted(+1)

Definitely the best theme implementation and originalityfrom the games I've played so far.

Technically it is a little buggy. Cutofs are sometimes lost, sometimes they can't be picked up.

I love how you played with magazine covers.

Imagine having an OCR implemented that would check if the message is readable. That would be awesome! :-)

Very good job!

Developer

Thank you so much for the kind words. Definitely could have done better with the execution, but ThreadTheDawnGames' idea was indeed brilliant.

I love the idea for this! After cutting out the letters, I often had trouble dragging them onto the ransom note. I would cut out a whole bunch of letters, and then at least some of the pile I could drag onto the note. Also, I thought the music fit really well!

Developer

Thank you! I found it worked better if you do one letter at a time, and stick to simple shapes.

The initial idea came from https://treadthedawngames.itch.io/. I made some adjustments to it to fit the scope.

Incredibly creative idea, it did seem hit or miss whether it would let me drag what i cut out, but I think this was such a cool idea!

Developer

Thank you, the idea man was https://treadthedawngames.itch.io/  , my execution turned out quite buggy though

Submitted(+1)

Really fun idea, but I couldn’t get it to work. I cut out some letters, and was able to place one, but after that I couldn’t click and drag anymore. Would love to come back and try again if the controls were updated.

Developer

Yeah, sorry about that. It can be quite buggy, especially if you go for more intricate shapes.

Extremely clever take on the theme and satisfying to play! The concept of a professional ransom noter is hilarious too.

Developer

Glad you liked it! The core idea came from https://treadthedawngames.itch.io/

This is an interesting and a fun experience, def fits the theme, unique idea. Great work!

Developer

Thank you, really glad you liked it

What an amazing back story! Who does not – secretly – want to be a professional Ransom Noter!?

I had some issues with missing some cuts and with placing some letters where they should go, but otherwise great sounds, music and a very notable core mechanic!

It even touches on the main theme, with a very ironic twist! Great sense of humor!

I would even buy this game in a more refined state! Please keep going!

Developer

Thank you for the kind feedback. It does seem to be a very chill job :)

Had issues with dragging cutouts but the overall idea is awesome!

Developer

Glad you liked it, and sorry about the bugs.

Submitted(+1)

I am also having issues with some cutouts not being draggable. Not sure what's happening. Ended up causing the entire first note to be un-finishable because the non-draggable cutout ended up always on top of any new cut out.

I do really like this idea! Just struggling with some technical issues.

Developer

Sorry to hear that. When pieces end up on one another you can drag them individually by grabbing from a corner. If you grab from an area that overlaps, the pieces under the top one also get dragged. It is buggy indeed.

Submitted(+1)

It’s quite relaxing and simple. While you still have many bug, other than those on the page would be, rarely you can’t grab what you cut and it stay where the cut spawn, another one that is actually good is, you can cut an already cut part of the paper, duplicating paper and having unlimit use of one journal. The placing also start getting weird with weird or huge shape. I found the add paper funny and overall good job

Developer

Thanks, glad you liked it. And yeah, the cutting and dragging is quite buggy.

Submitted

i can’t drag my cutouts regardless of size

Developer

Try to stick to convex shapes (rectangles, roughly circles). And when you cut, don't take the cut all the way to the starting point. Release it before, and the game will complete the cut. The collider is quite buggy.
