This was funny! The humor was just as snappy as in Gacha Grems and the “I ran out of time, so here is the summary” was even funnier due the theme of the jam. I dig the Undertale-style and the whole presentation, the story was fun and well written too. I enjoyed it a lot!

One of the most fun games I’ve played so far in just pure story and references, it was a treat to see all the small gags. While I haven’t played Undertale admittedly, the gameplay was fun and I like the spin in the Raora battle where you collect the coins (assuming that’s new). Even if the game wasn’t fully complete, I still got a lot to enjoy out of the gameplay style and general aesthetic.

Some of the attacks seemed to have some unforgiving hitboxes. Kiara’s flame attack was already mentioned but I swear the chattino wave also kept hitting me in places that I thought it shouldn’t have. Kiara’s explosion attack being unreactable was also not great but you can at least just tank it at the cost of one heart.

I also noticed a bug where the battle menu is interactable underneath the gacha screen, so clicking on the battle menu area while the gacha screen is up can send you into enemy attack phase while the screen is still covered, for example. That happened to me once and confused me as I heard the audio in the background despite being on a different screen. While not the same bug, a related issue I had was being able to interact with the battle menu as soon as the combat phase ended, which was a jarring cut. It is a polish thing mainly and I understand you didn’t have time for it, but I would prefer the menu transition finishing first before you can interact with it.

Great work overall though, I’d love to see a finished version! It’s cool you put in a mention of all your planned ideas.

Thanks for the feedback, bug reports, and for playing!

My goat drops even more peak to follow up on the masterpiece that was gacha grems! I had such a shit eating grin the entire time I was playing. In undertale fashion I played purely pacifist to have the most enjoyable time seeing what you cooked up with the writing. The raora boss was my favorite because the gacha doodles were so funny. I love all the environmental gags sprinkled around and the many many many puns.

PEAK/5 no notes aside from please never stop making games.

I honestly love your writing so much, they're hilarious! Definitely on brand to Gigi's humor (and undertale's as well)

Most have already pointed out the problems with the boss attack patterns, and I think that is the only small problem I had with this game, but since the game is pretty lenient with health/revives and fights doesn't drag out, it really didn't detract much from the overall experience for me.

🧍‍♂️I can't believe they had ein bussi without letting Gigi join in.

Thank you for making this!

I loved everything from the hand drawn props and environments to the humor. I think it is a great start and is worth finishing post-jam.

Critiques:

>Kiara flame attack doesn't seem dodge-able. If it is i accept it as a skill issue.

>First bird fight seem to trigger the battle scene early based on the convo.

>Obviously you ran out of time but my issue is that, that is the only reference to the jam theme.

This game is AWESOME! I love how chaotic everything is, from dialogue to movements to art, everything's so happily crazy.

I liked the game. Kiara boss fight so unfair, lol. I have no clue how to dodge her flame attack. Writing and art are nice. good job

Very nice!  The art is really cute, and the story is fun.  I really appreciate you including "Here's what the story was going to be" at the end, that's really nice for a more story-driven game jam project.

Very impressive for a solo dev, fantastic work!

I really like your entries to these jams, they're so silly

Still haven't gotten around to playing Undertale myself, but I know about how the combat system works, and I think its awesome that you stayed true to it, with the hostile vs pacifist solutions to fighting. That in itself, with the combat that's already present in the game, feels like enough to pad out a full submission, honestly.

I really liked the goofy reactions and videos on the side of the combat box, and since the combat wasn't crazy complex, they weren't super distracting, which is good. I didn't get to see if Cece had a death sprite, but Gigi doing the Family Guy death pose got me good.

Would be awesome to see you come back and add what you had plotted out at the end of the game, but all in all good work!

Thank you for your kind words :')
It means a lot and fills me with determination.

I like the ideas, but I think the combat misses some pretty crucial aspects of Undertale's gameplay and also bullet-hell's more broadly: there's supposed to be some way to see attacks before they can hit and always some way to avoid them. The first attack, with the bird flying straight at the player doesn't seem to have any way to avoid it quickly enough, even from clear across the arena, and after that most of the attacks have some aspect that can hit the player instantly. Separately, I think the two revolving bell shapes were unfair as well, due to hitting in spots that didn't match the visuals.

One other thing, is Sandalphon a reference to Shadowverse, and if so, didn't of them actually use an evo deck?

Developer

That's fair. Some feedback I got from playtesters were about certain attack patterns (especially Kiara's) being too unforgiving. At the time, it was near deadline, so rather than spend time on fixing aspects like the speed and hitboxes of attacks, I decided to focus on making the rest game playable at least, since I also figured that the player's (Gigi and Ceci's) health pools being so high combined with the fact that the revive action restores so much health would mean that the player can effectively not ever lose as long as they were thinking.

Sandalphon is from Grandblue Fantasy ("GBF"), who also appears in Shadowverse because GBF and Shadowverse are both by Cygames. If you search up "Gigi sandalphon" you can go down that rabbit hole, because one of Gigi's... hyperfixations(?)... is Sandalphon and his story and character dynamics and relationships.

The intro illustrations were cute.

"Do Something" had very interesting action options. Unconventional conflict resolution, I guess? I liked how in character those options and dialogues were. XD

I also like how you included text boxes describing the missing content that you couldn't finish implementing instead of just showing a text box saying "Sorry, ran out of time."

Short and sweet game.

Very nice Undertale-inspired gameplay. Love it when Ceci slaps Gigi awake to revive her.

Lost the 2nd fight but the game let me continue anyway, can't tell if that's intentional. Nonetheless, I can tell a lot of heart went into this and it can be great after some more polish!

Noticed a few bugs before the first battle, the first thing is that you can still control Gigi in the background even while a battle is going on.

The other one is that when the Bird starts an attack you will always receive 1 hit of damage no matter what

I'll probably check it back after the grace period, looks interesting

Developer

Thanks for the bug report! Hopefully they're fixed now!
