I guess you didn’t have time to playtest this because the difficulty is practically unplayable.
One thing I’d recommend is replacing the “Arrow keys/WASD to select a note, Space to hit the note” with “Arrow keys/WASD to hit the note” which is a much more intuitive control scheme.
I’m looking forward to see how this game develops!
I’m also hosting a monthly jam for continuing work on jam games (among other projects), if you’re interested: Continue Your Game
Omg its so tough! haha. as much as I love rhythm games I am absolutely terrible at them so some difficulty changes would be nice :p I like that art tho and the concept is fun, but they are kinda fighting with fireballs as well as dance... i bet its a friendship fireball and completely on theme :p
Not sure if it's the best fit for the Jam's theme. Using music to facilitate combat rather than to avoid combat.
It' is a pretty fun concept regardless. I probably would have liked the DDR styled UI to be a bit bigger, perhaps moving a bit slower. Making it more prominent would probably help with the difficulty.
Graphics and animations are so good! I am very jealous of your retro artwork. The game is very difficult though, I felt very overwhelmed early on haha. Possibly a more gradual difficulty increase?
Oh, to be crystal clear (I'm actually just about to include links to the assets instead of just the names, which I forgot to do). I did not create the artwork, I purchased the assets from ansimuz. You are spot on with difficulty, I'll definitely tone that back in other levels if I choose to make more.
Ah okay! Thank you for the transparency. Another thing I thought of that may help. Maybe add a visual que, or sound effect when you successfully press an arrow at the correct or incorrect time? It was difficult to know when I was doing well or bad sometimes. Still a good game, especially for the 2 week time frame :)
you have way too much faith in the average person's ability to play rhythm games. As soon as more than 3 notes arrive, I lose everything, lol... Nice idea and nice graphics, tho !
I definitely went a little crazy with the difficulty! XD
