Beautiful portrait art for the characters, I really like it!
And also the music, I really like that too!

Developer

I drew the portraits, glad you liked them. Thanks!

The art and animation are very cute! There is a bit of a contrast between visual styles, though.

I really liked the artwork and vibes. I encountered a bug I think that resulted in null reference exceptions sending me flying through the scenes, which was a bit jarring. I assume it was due to the button not correctly interacting with the dialogue system. My advice is adding in some kinda fallback into the system that always occurs if all else fails. That way you aren't having errors cause unexpected chaos.

Very cute.  I loved the art, the environments were so cute, the VN characters looked so nice, and the pixel characters were animated so well.  Fantastic!  And the music was just perfect, it made me not want to finish any of the puzzles, just so I could keep listening to them.

A shame it became just 3 riddles, but I enjoyed it anyways.  Good work, I hope you all had fun, and enjoyed working on this!

Developer

It definitely got busy towards the end,  but was still very much enjoyable. Thank you so much for the nice words, we're happy you enjoyed it all <3

Wow. Amazing job with putting in a lot of details in all the art for this! Shiori looks so pretty, well done!

Developer

Thank you so much!

I can tell a lot of love went into making this. Music is soothing and suits the vibe of the game, pixel art and portrait art is incredible. There are also a bunch of reference scattered around in the background and its kinda fun walking around finding them.

I believe somewhere during development yall must've met some difficulty or time constraints, since the whole framework seems like it wasn't built up just for a trivia game (ability to walk around, clicking on stuff, fully working dialogue system etc).

Its a solid framework nonetheless, and I'd love to see them getting reused into something else in the future if possible!

As for this entry, yall made it to submission, and that is applaudable by itself! Not everyone made it that far! Thanks for making this!

Hiya, thank you so much for the nice words, Alphros <3

Yeah, especially towards the end, we faced a bit of time and internal difficulties but everything's been resolved shortly after - So all good. We actually had a bit more planned to add, but I think we overscoped a little bit. Oh well, thanks for playing!

The pixel art is nice. There is a bug where debug console keeps popping up when it goes to the level level.

Agreeing with the consensus from the other reviewers, I think the art is very much the strong point for this submission. The pixel art was very high quality and the animations looked smooth, and I personally really liked the VN style character portraits. To be completely honest, I think you could have leaned into it some more and just made it a purely visual novel game - but I will say the overworld portions were nice to give the opportunity to explore the scenes you had developed for each of the girls, since there were a lot of details!

The theme is relatively weak on this one - maybe the team was going for a time angle with reminiscing with the 3 talents. But in the grand scheme of tings, putting the project together and getting it out there is more important than sticking to the jam script, in my book (and as I was typing this I read the comment about time based puzzles, which means the thought was there, at the very least, so that's good!)

And of course I have to shout out the music, haven't seen Luca miss on any of the projects that he's been on, and this was no different. Excellent work per usual.

All in all glad you guys were able to get the project out the door, and it was a fun -if short - experience, and would love to see what you or the team make for the next jam!

I liked the game's atmosphere. It is nice and relaxing.

Cute bgm remixes and pretty character portraits!

I also liked the pixel art animations and the little details and references in the backgrounds.

Some improvement suggestions:

- Consider standarizing the pixel scale between character sprites and background elements to have a more cohesive visual presentation. This is a suggestion for a future project, not for this one in which all the art is already done.

- Some texts (questions and answers) blend with the background. Consider adding a contrasting color outline for better visibility.

- For the dialogue sections, consider the whole screen as a button for advancing to the next dialogue bit. It makes it easier to move through the story without having to move the pointer to the dedicated "Continue" button.

- The result of incorrectly answering a question is inconsistent between encounters. Gura's causes a game over while the others just restart the section. Not sure if intended or accidental.

- I got a null reference exception message in the console at some point, which I didn't expect to see. XD (oh yeah, it seems you uploaded a development build!)

- While the game is very short, it would be nice to have a button to be able to return to the title screen and exit at any point during the gameplay and not just at the end screen.

- Mumei's question is worded in a way that doesn't actually fit the answer. It's not who fans thought it was, but who it originally was going to be... before Mumei decided to turn it into something else. (at least that's how I remember it)

Good job, team!

Thank you for the feedback!!  Im glad you liked the art, Yozorani and Zoatom are quite talented and i also very much enjoy their works!! (im also glad you liked the BG's :3)

Developer

Thanks for the feedback! This version left a lot of oversights that didn't get fixed, but glad you still liked it!

I'm going to be honest, a game that's mainly just testing old trivia knowledge with dialogue repetition as the failstate doesn't really benefit from this much theming and fancy presentation. Like, if that's all it was going to be I'd rather the game be upfront about it so I can't skip it immediately.

Other than that, you seem to have used the version of Unity that windows 11 doesn't like. I'd recommend updating before you make anything else. Also please either include an in-game way to quit or don't default to fullscreen. Having to use OS hotkeys to quit your game isn't good.

Developer

Apologies that you didnt have the best time, we were originally going to add separate puzzles that would be on a timer but didnt get to that, still thank you for the feedback!!

Developer

Thanks for playing our game!

Very beautiful game! Loved all the references put in each of the world! There are so many really small details only fans would catch xD (god that snail and clover made me tear up). Music is also really nostalgic you gonna make real fans cry xD

A few things i might mention:

Mumeis question of what her fans THOUGHT the scary picture is based on might be a little misleading. I know it is based on suisei but if its about "fans thought" it might also mean what they see in that face (like it is really well spread as mumeis scary face rather than suisei).

I realized while replaying the game again, that the sprite layering may be faulty for the worlds?

Shioris sprite is always over guras sprite in guras world, shioris sprite is always behind mumeis sprite in mumeis world and with fauna its mixed/clipping through. as if gura is like layer 0, shiori and fauna layer 1 and mumei layer 3. might be worth checking. i would always put npcs behind the player character.

Other than that, the E for interact doesnt exactly work. likely cause thats a dev build as previously mentioned. (that also being the reason the dev console showed up for me at one point).

Anyways good work on that!

Developer

Thank you for the feedback and im glad you liked it!  I tried my best with the BG's so im glad you liked them!!

It鈥檚 a really cute game. Wandering through the different rooms brought back old memories, which made me feel a bit emotional. Having to rewatch the script every time I got a quiz question wrong was slightly inconvenient. I was also a little startled by the scream at the end. Still, I had a lot of fun playing it. Also, I noticed that the Windows version is set as a Development Build.

Developer

Thank you for the feedback and im glad you liked the game!  We couldn't quite fit everything we wanted to in this version, but im glad you liked it nonetheless!! (im glad you liked the backgrounds, they were supposed to be parallax backgrounds but there wasnt time to implement them so after the jam we are going to add them :3)

Developer

That was an oversight my me, sorry about that but still glad you enjoyed the game!

I like the art. Main problem is drastically different style in character pixel art and backgrounds, I would say. Also console visible for some reason.

Developer

Glad you liked the art and thanks for the feedback!
