great little platformer but as everyone is saying its too hard :( I think the difficulty could be fixed if the jump was just a little bit higher because it doesn't feel good if you only just make it to a platform and have to push to actually get on there especially in that last boss fight. while it doesn't fit the theme that well the bosses I think do fit it very well and I saw you said you focused on gameplay more than implementation of the theme and I think that paid off because you have all the core platformer vibes perfect (apart from maybe slightly too short a jump :p).

overall very well done I think this is one of the best of the whole jam :)

Yeah  the game is definitely hard I learned a lot from making it and I’ll try to do better in the next jam. The jump actually goes higher the longer you hold the button (not sure if you noticed), but I still 100% agree with your points.

Thanks a lot for the feedback and for taking the time to share your thoughts, I really appreciate it.

Kinda struggling on the first couple of levels, I haven't even gotten to any kind of boss fight. (I tried playing this with my Xbox controller, the controls felt kinda slippery. )

I loved playing this game so much. So many right decisions made, but the shining factor is the level design. I was so impressed with how unique each level was to eachother. I was so impressed with both boss fights but specifically the finally boss. This was one that motivated me to really work my creative muscles more for my next Jam. The only critique i can have is that i wish the difficulty creeped more gradually. Maybe even section the levels out by Beginner/Intermediate/Hard.

I will be coming back to play more :)

Thanks a lot! I’m glad you enjoyed the levels and boss fights.

I agree the difficulty could be smoother. Really appreciate your feedback.

I'm going organize my experience according to the rating categories, hopefully it provides some useful feedback!

Fun 2/5: The low rating here is mainly due to the immense difficulty that hits pretty early on. The first level wasn't so bad, but the second was pretty rough, not helped by the jump, which I felt was just a bit too weak. I managed to make it to the fourth level before giving up. I think upping the jump velocity just a bit would be a huge help. Also, the round collider on the character does make sense, but it's a bit too easy to narrowly land on the platform only to slide right off. This is another thing that a little more jump might help with. I can also see how a gamepad would help a ton, I tried it and the jump key (A) was not working. I don't know for certain if that's a bug or is on my end, so I'll leave it at that.

Graphics 4/5: Nothing crazy, but does fantastic with a very minimalistic style. Does the job and does it well.

Music/Sound Design 4/5: Again, nothing special, but it absolutely does what it should and helps the experience. The song is just ambient enough to not become too annoying, sort of like a binaural beat playlist, it helps you focus, which is awesome!

Concept 3/5: Simple but enjoyable platformer. It really does not have anything to do with the theme as far as I can tell, but that is not a category for rating, so that won't play into my review here. I think a few tweaks to the gameplay (and the difficulty especially) would really improve this one.

Congrats on finishing your game! I'm pretty sure we all know that's often the hardest part.

The jump actually goes higher the longer you hold the jump button, which is why there’s a high obstacle early on to teach that mechanic.

That said, I agree the game is clearly very difficult. I probably didn’t fully consider that most players won’t spend a long time mastering it. It does get much easier with practice, but I agree it should’ve been a bit more forgiving, especially since you’re not the first person to mention this.

Thanks a lot for the rating and the detailed feedback, I really appreciate it.

It’s too hard, especially the first boss (stronger than the final boss, could barely damage it - was the dropdown floor really necessary?) and parts that require both timing and speed at the same time.

Also, the concept doesn’t really fit the theme well.

I agree   the game is pretty hard, especially for new players, and playing on keyboard is definitely harder than using a controller.

About the concept and theme, I agree too. I focused more on making the game fun to play rather than sticking strictly to the theme. The idea from the start was that the levels themselves are the enemy and you’re trying to escape them, even though the boss fights could have been done differently.

Thanks for the feedback, I really appreciate it.
