The atmosphere you created is great. I was on the edge of my seat during the whole gameplay. The background music and the pieces of lore here and there are really unsettling. Which I honestly loved.
My only criticism is that some sounds, like open/close bag, and putting seeds on the ground were a bit too loud, I felt like I was shooting a gun everytime I planted a tomato 😁
But that's just a detail, I loved the game overall, congrats for the experience!
Hey CCadori, thank you for the feedback! I agree some of the sounds didnt have very well regulated volumes haha.
My current headset only has one functioning side and the volume is irregular, so I was kind of just eye-guessing the volumes with audacity. I will make sure to fix that in an post-jam update soon enough as well as work some more on the audios (and definitely take some inspiration from your game, your sound design is honestly amazing and feels extremely well polished!)
I'm glad the atmosphere worked well though! I am a huge fan of horror and really enjoy trying to incorporate the psychological causes of fear into my work.
Thank you again for playing and I hope you enjoyed the game!
Solid atmosphere, love the billboarding. Great feel on the rifle. I was about to comment on the camera but zikoundou already did so I won't. It was a bit unclear whether or not you need to water the crops and which crops have been watered. The inventory system feels a little to stingy, I guess it adds to the horror but it kinda gets in the way of farming and exploration. Maybe add a storage chest at home. I liked this entry, most intense game I've played so far in this jam.
Thanks for playing my game! Yeah i spent a long time on the main mechanics and realized I didn't have a water system in the last day haha, so I kind of built it in a bit of a hurry, storage is also a great idea and I will most definitely be adding it in post-jam updates! I'm happy you enjoyed the rifle's system, and I truly hope it was in general a pleasing experience!
It was quite enjoyable. Looking forward to post-jam updates. Speaking of, I found several minor bugs:
- You should set the current hovered interactable to null when the player isn't looking at any interactables. Currently, I can play the monologue for the cooked family inside the house while I'm nowhere near them by pressing E.
- I equipped and unequipped a tomato seed item and it got stuck on screen for the rest of the game
This is sooooo fire. The atmosphere matched the theme so well. I can tell u spent a great deal on the details ie zoom in on aiming with the rifle, the change of sprites as u rotate around some of the objects, the billboarding for the 2d objects in the scene, day and night cycle etc. And I fw the overall aesthetic, very reminiscent of DOOM.
Now with some feedback:
I think having the fixed horizontal camera takes away from the game a bit. For example, picking up seeds felt a lil weird because intuitively having anything on the ground makes you wanna look at it as u pick it up.
Walking speed felt kinda slow especially after comin back home from exploring. This feeling was multiplied by the fact that I'd get lost see a wall and then be like bruuuuuu i gotta walk all the way back :(((. I do kinda like the fact that u can get lost easily just wish there was a bit more hip in my step u know?
Other than that, this was super fireeeeee. I really liked that big rock that lowkey looks like the back of a gorilla.
game defo in my top 3
Thank you Zikoudou! I really worked hard on the rifle's animation and the general scenery haha
I completly agree with the fixed horizontal camera statement, though it is an stylistic choice, it can be very unintuitive. I plan on adding that as a setting in an update, as well as change the player's walking pace or adding some sort of running system!
The rock was honestly kind of a joke between me and some friends, and it was a small reference to the Blackrock in Stephen King's "In The Tall Grass"
I've been getting a lot of feedback for the game recently, which honestly makes me extremely happy and inspires me to work on it more, so in complete sincerity, thank you very much for playing and commenting on the game!
I loved the art style and atmosphere of the game, excellent work! I did encounter a few bugs that made the experience a little stressful, but it was fun to play.
Thank you so much for your comment! I apologize for any bugs that might have slipped out of my radar. If you could perhaps tell me some of them, I would be extremely happy to fix them to provide a better experience to whoever plays!
Sure.
1- In this image below you can see that I am trying to enter the house but the game keeps telling me that I don't have enough space on me. Not sure why entering the house is related to the inventory. I had to throw away an item to enter.
2 - In the image below I was pressing E to harvest a tomato but the game was telling me that I don't have enough space on me, but according to my inventory I had one open slot.
3 - The shooting mechanic works fine almost all the time but in one position (when the deer was at the top right corner of the house) no matter how close I was from the deer, it was not taking the shoot.
4- This one only happened to me once. After planting one tomato seed, the image that displays what the player has in the hand did not go away, so when I was selecting other item I was seeing the tomato image with the seeds image above it.
Thank you again for informing me of these, I'll be posting a quick patch fixing these behaviours.
I made a reusable interactable object script for multiple objects, which is why the door was related to the inventory.
As for No.2, I believe that to be the correct behaviour, as the tomato plant gives both seeds and the fruit
For No.3, I apologize for the situation, the farm slots triggers might be interfering with the rifle's raycast
I am not fully aware of what might be causing No.4 but I will check it out
A very unique concept indeed! I love the art style!
Hey thank you for both comments! It really means a lot to me to see people enjoy my games and know they had a nice experience. The gun shot SFX being loud was indeed supposed to try and bring contrast in between the generally quiet and calm environment and the more impactful and sudden sound, although it might have been a little too loud haha.
Hi Fantoche, I couldn't play your game, there is a red layer over the screen, is it a bug?
Hello CCadori! I that problem generally occurs because of some incompatibilities in between Unity's URP and WebGL, the problem only occurs on some machines making it really hard to diagnose, and therefore should work fine upon download!
I really did try to fix it but failed to find any working fixes on my current Unity version.
I apologize for the inconvenience, and thank you for the heads up!
Got it, no problem, I will test the desktop version then! 😁
