Doing a metroidvania for a game jam is really wild, props for that. I think the game does progression well, given the short timespan, and I think the main issue I ran into was not realizing I needed to kill the fish at the end in order to win. Good work.

Thanks! Metroidvania's are my favorite genre and have become my programming specialty so I knew that's what I wanted. I appreciate the progression comment cause I spent a lot of time on the level design (the first half of the game is pretty non-linear). But you're right, the end boss probably needed like a locked door behind you or something to signify that killing it is the only way.

Game looks and sounds trippy (in a goodish way) but i would be lying if i said i didn't have a blast.

It's full of content compared to other games i've seen.

If i had to complain...

Animation goes a long way in games like these, even just adding a little walk animation to the character would make the experience so much better.

The artstyle is a litle weird, it makes the game look unfinished, maybe drawing everything in the style of the main character, adding a background and making a texture for the walls and floors would make the game better. Also making the OOB (out of bounds) area visible isnt good, it feels weird (especially with the water rise)

Developer

I'm glad you had fun! Valid criticism for sure. I kind of just ran out of time for wall textures. I tried one that didn't look good and eventually decided to just polish other areas. But that's like the first thing I'd go back and fix. That and the OOB.
