Creative take of rogue , fun ,
title didn't quite match what I expected from the graphics style.
Audio would have made this a lot more polished , seeing as how it's quite put together already.

Developer

Honestly the title was an afterthought.  And yeah, I wish I’d gotten to sound. Thanks for the review!

Really fun, I like the FOV revealing and movement feels smooth. :)

The inventory could use some fine tuning though :D

Developer

yeah, I ran out of time while working on that part.  Thanks for the review!

Greeat looking game! The FOV is really smooth. I'm curious, do enemies chase from all around the map or do they have a range? It does make it more dynamic how they come find  you. Some sounds and music and you're cooking

Developer(+1)

the enemies try to chase you, but if they get too far away, they respawn and I spawn a new one in a random spot out of camera range. There are never more than 3 at a time

Nice classical Rogue, it has everything : a FOV, making each turn a weighted decision, enventory, ennemies. The artstyle is simple but enough, it gives polished vibes and the dark tiles really make it feel like we are in a dungeon.

The enemies are super strong though, if you start to fight one and realize you do not have enough power, you can run and try to find waepons or potions but they follow you a lot !

For improvements I would suggest adding a more classical font to the HP bar and the inventory, it took me one death to understand you had to click on the inventory items to use them.

I loved the lighting in your game, gave a really outstanding vibe for the game. The inspirations on the original game are all that, but with some twists along the way. The whole game works. Number wise the enemies can kill you pretty fast (mine has this problem too), but atleast you can run away from them! I like the idea that a powerful Lich has some random human thugs working for him.

With some tweaks it would make a great horror game. I like how smooth it is and that the game guids you sometimes ^^

Congrats on completing your first itch game and game jam! I like the smooth animation; the game still conforms to a turn-based grid but feels more fluid and natural. The graphics are similarly appealing, with that nice parallax thing going on that adds imposing shadows onto the corners, allowing enemies able to pounce instantly from the corners. All the essentials are implemented well here: there's an inventory and item upgrade churn, a nice little output terminal and a multi-level design that gets challenging very quickly. I appreciated the compass to guide the player too: there's a lot of dead ends in the maze!

For constructive feedback, the item system is good, but it was tricky to tell what upgrades were materially useful or better than what I had; this makes it difficult to adapt to the onslaught of enemies and feel there's a sense of progression. I think a few little tweaks, like visible item stats, could go a long way to helping the player feel they're in control! There's lots of items hinted by the design, like yet to be implemented scrolls, that could help a lot as well!

The shadow effect is gives a nice touch, the movement is really smooth and the attacks give good feedback. Scrolls were not working for me. In these kind of games I would prefer if everything could be controlled via the keyboard.

The graphics are outstanding, with smooth performance and impressive shadowcasting that really enhances the experience. However, the game feels quite challenging to play, and the absence of a visible minimap makes navigating the dungeon difficult.

The scaling got kinda scary at floor 7, scrolls didnt work which was kinda sad but was otherwise pretty fun, died with a bo staff and a chainmail set
