How does your game represent "Slick"?
The penguin slides. And also you have to use objects to attack instead of yourself, requiring high level thinking.

penguin survivors !!!

Nice work! Felt fun to zip around the map, but I felt like I was losing track of the ice cube often. I really liked the doot doot penguin especially! Great work on the game and systems you built!

This was a really fun and unique take on the "Survivors-like" genre - most of those have you shooting or swinging your weapon, but I can't think of a single one that makes the weapon part of the arena! And I was really impressed by all the unique upgrades you were able to come up with for your control scheme. I think the only thing I would change/add would be an indicator of where the ice cube was when it goes off-screen, as it was a bit hard to navigate at times. I hope that you continue to expand this after the jam, because I think you have something really special here!!

Fun game! The ice cubesfeel really nice to impact. And I'm impressed you made a mini-survivors-like in 9 days. Nice job!

Developer

Didn’t you also make one in like 9 days XD

Submitted(+1)

LOL mine didn't have upgrades though, that's what I meant.

Very nice concept! I kept wanting a zoom out feature, since things are moving so fast. Other then that, it was a solid experience, and a great core idea that can easily be expanded upon.

Developer

Yup yup, accurate feedback :D Thanks for playing

The controls feel good, the animals are cute, and the audio is nice. It was a lot of fun to unleash as many ice cubes as possible into the arena and just let chaos reign. Good work!

Thank you :)

Iced a couple walruses, candles, and a lot of fish with Pingu

If you expand it, would be cool to see some  Pingu expand size powerups or icecube riding

Pingu ice hockey! Pingu ice bowling!

Developer

You understood the assignment. Your thoughts aligned with mine. I really would like to do that :D

Very satisfying to thwack the ice cubes (how they bounce and play the sound effect)! The art style and animations are very charming. Fun, fast gameplay!

got to level 15. really clever twits on a classic genre. sooo fun and slick. the only issue for me is that in later levels and you are going really fast and there is 50 things on screen, its really hard to notice the spawn "!", and they hit you before you know it. otherwise, this is amazing. great job!!

Developer

dang level 15 that is very impressive, thanks for playing man.

Developer

Thanks for playing ^^

Simple but catchy game loop, super stressful, I can see why they called it "Penguin Panic" now. I stacked up on cubes not realizing the health bonus seemed super rare and might have come in handy. Super hard to aim but if it was easy it wouldn't be leaning into the slickness/panic of the game now would it?

Developer(+1)

I’m glad you could play it :D Yup all the things you mention are true. We tried to make it easy enough for the player to at least manage 1 minute without dying. If you flattened enough enemies by then you should be about powerful enough to become invincible

SLICK!  This game fits the theme really well.  I like the art style and the upgrade system.  I kept going for the extra cubes as it was fun to have loads of them flying around all over the place.   The hitboxes for the player hitting the ice cubes felt a bit too small and I'd often completely miss them and end up sliding into an enemy instead, but other than that I had a lot of fun.

Developer

Yes. Its unfortunate. i might need to take that into account next time. use Continuous collision detection for the player at least and also make sure the sprite and the collision shape at same location. and also make the collider slightly bigger than it strictly needs to be (I only thought about seperating the getting hit and hitting cubes collider, which might have worked better)

Really nice game, the art style is great and the upgrades add a lot of strategy to it, I did feel as if the faster walking and sliding speeds were kind of redundant since you are already very fast. I managed to get a lot of strength in my best run.

Developer (1 edit)

Strength maxing :D Yeah wait for the mobile version. Have any thought on cube upgrade ideas instead?

Solid theme use! Somehow I felt like I was dribbling a ball in rocket league? It was really nice to stack a bunch of cubes and slam em away!

Developer

That was my favorite too :D

Cute aesthetic and pretty unique!

I loved the art for the penguin! Seeing all of the ice cubes hit each other towards the end of my run was pretty fun. I might recommend zooming out the camera a little, so it's easier to keep track of you cubes.

I love the managed chaos here, only ever buy more ice cubes, nothing else.

Developer

More cubes more chaos :P
