How does your game represent "Slick"?
The game features some slick movement mechanics and character design to start, but it also literally meets the definition by including ice sliding mechanics for speed boosts to navigate the stage as an otherwise slow protagonist.

What you’ve put together is really well done. The controls kind of “feed into” each other and really open up for skating quickly around, dunking enemies, and having a great time. There’s a lot of heart that shines through really strongly. You’ve put together something really enjoyable to play! :)
Thank you very much! :D
So glad you enjoyed the game and its mechanics, we were quite happy with how everything turned out! We wanted a nice game with ice that would be fun to interact with rather than a downside! The whole team really gave it their all and I'm glad it shows!
fun origin story
Glad you enjoyed it! Thank you for playing! :D
super fun! loved making the whole floor ice to really slide around. addicting
Very glad you enjoyed it and had fun redecorating the map(s) for the movement! :D
*chaos n' such*
Good fun, feel like sliding into enemies fast enough to hit them would be a fun addition
Thanks for playing the game, glad you enjoyed the game! :D
Hitting an enemy with more speed does send them flying a little bit further, but we were hoping to let them hit other ice as well... Maybe post-jam!
Awesome intro. Excellent presentation. The controls were a little hard for me. Good experience overall, good job.
Glad the overall experience was still pleasant for you! :D
Sorry the controls were a bit tough, there really isn't too much time to learn them when you're dropped in admittedly. Thanks for playing though!
The ice sliding mechanics are done really well, I like how it's more than just a movement option. It gives you higher fire rate and such too. (Amazing intro cutscene)
Thank you! We wanted to encourage players set up their own play area and utilize sliding a bunch! :D
Glad you like the intro cutscene, seems to be a big hit! :P
Hey!
The slick theme mechanics are very well implemented and clever.
The game even has a fun story as well I'm a big fan of Isekai animes, so good job on that!
I wish there was a checkpoint system. I died on level 2 but I respawned from the beginning.
Other than that, this is a really great game with excellent theme execution!
Keep it up guys!
So glad you took the time to play the game and I'm happy you enjoyed it! :D
The team worked really hard on the cool story intro, happy that you liked that too! The game can definitely be unforgiving with the lack of checkpoints, for sure... There was a little worry it might be much too short of an experience otherwise, but it ended up kinda brutal. :P
My New Life as a Guy who Slides Around a Lot to Avoid the Enemies but Shoots Them when the Timing is Ideal.
I'm a fan of the sprite work. The animations are fun and full of motion, the reflection is a great detail to have, the cutscenes are put together well too.
Definitely a second possible running for a title! :P
I'm glad you enjoy the sprites and animation! :D I worked pretty hard on those li'l dudes so I'm glad it worked out! Thank you for playing!
I enjoyed it, it is somewhat tricky to figure out how to optimally use the ice paths and I wish there was a checkpoint at the start of each stage, but I get you were going for a classic arcade aesthetic and checkpoints would not work with that.
We were considering doing the checkpoints at the stages but it was pretty late in creation and we couldn't get it to work right in time. Definitely something we'd consider in a post-jam release of the game.
Glad that you enjoyed it still! :D
I like the versatility of the ice paths, all for mobility, creating safe paths, and for increasing firing speed. I was a bit confused at first on what the best way to take out enemies was, but I eventually figured out how to throw them effectively against objects for health pickups. Besides that, I like the parody of the isekai sub-genre here. I don’t watch a whole lot of anime, but I did pick up on the tropes parodied.
Yeah, with more time we definitely wanted to have more of a starter tutorial area that taught the game mechanics to the player... Pushing ice into the lava does slow the lava destroying the stage, but shattering an enemy gives health!
Glad even without much anime knowledge the tropes weren't completely alien at least! :D
Love the idea, art is great too! I like how the sliding makes the game more interesting and adds a sort of emergent difficulty. Great game!
Thanks for the kind words! :D Glad you enjoyed the art and mechanics and had some fun with our game!
gameplay loop is nice and enjoyable. Nice job on this!
Thank you very much, happy to hear you enjoyed it! We certainly tried! :D
very slick mechanics and art style, nice one!
Glad you liked the mechanics and art. Thanks for playing our game!
fun game to play, loved how quickly he accepted his new life lmao XD
Haha thanks so much!! We had some good laughs in Discord when we discussed how gung ho he was going to be off the jump! Thanks for playing :3
The sliding mechanic is probably my favourite out of all the icy entries so far and the story deserves an anime adaptation, it got me hooked.
When playing I encountered a bug that would freeze me in place and I couldn’t do anything - all inputs stopped responding. I think it happened after I bounced of something immdiately after a slide, but I’m not sure.
I'm glad that you enjoyed the game! We wanted to try to make a game where the ice wasn't going to be annoying to play on.
Our team members RagingClue did all the wonderful art and storyboard for that intro and provided the voices of the mom and penguin in distress, xoDucks assembled it in engine and helped with some various voices, DrHoodie did the lead character voice acting, and EMCIEL helped make all the sounds and voices feel at home in the retro theming! They did really great on it! :D
Unfortunately there is a bug that we didn't know about before launch that was almost immediately brought to our attention where being on ice over lava that has even the slightest gap in it (even just in hitbox, not necessarily visibly) can cause you to enter an endless falling state. :/
Glad that you enjoyed the game overall though! Thank you for playing!
The game looks so good
Thank you so very much! I'm glad that you played and enjoyed it! :D
The intro, art and SFX are so great. Really made me feel like a suave penguin readily accepting my role as the village protector. My only notes are the lack of explanation of the gameplay systems but that's pretty standard for most jam games and I found them pretty intuitive so great job!
I definitely agree that we could have explained the mechanics a bit better. We cut it pretty close on time, as I'm sure many people did, so there were a few things we weren't able to do. I'm glad you found the gameplay intuitive nonetheless, and glad you enjoyed the intro, art, and sound. Thanks for the feedback and for taking the time to play our game!
5 stars for the intro sequence alone! Got me to laugh out loud at a few point. The gameplay is equally enjoyable - I loved placing long ice paths and sliding along them to build up a bunch of speed. Excellent work to you all!
Oh wow, thank you so much! I'm glad you enjoyed the intro and the gameplay. You're too kind. Thanks for taking the time to play :)
The intro sequence is great! I like the concept of needing to freeze enemies and push them off stage to defeat them. I found that aspect to be a bit underexplained, so it took me a bit to figure it out, but it was fun once it clicked. I also found the enemies' attacks to be fairly difficult to dodge.
Thank you so much! I'm glad you liked the concept and intro. I agree, we could have explained the mechanics better, but we were scrambling toward the end (as I'm sure most people were) and that aspect sort of got away from us. I also agree that the enemies are hard to dodge, especially the archer crows. Hopefully we get to balance things a bit better in the future. Thanks for taking the time to play our game!
I really loved the intro sequence and the voice acting, it's so well done :D
The concept itself is also pretty nice and movement on top of the ice felt very slick
Great job!
Thanks so much! We put a ton of work into the intro and had a lot of fun recording the voice lines. I'm happy it paid off! I'm glad you enjoyed the movement as well. Thank you for taking the time to play our game!
