Very cool game, I loved how you used an hexagonal tile system ! I always wondered how the controls would look in such a game because we only have 4 arrows, but the rotation system to choose the direct is actually very clever !
The fact that you can hold the mouse to sprint but not when enemies view you is also very nice, it helps to go fast without sprinting into enemies (as I did in a lot of other games from the jam).
The graphics are lovely and the sound design goes well with it, even if a little simple.
I am waiting to see more of it, an inventory system and more variety of enemies would make for a perfect game, but for the jam limits you still did a very good job, congrats !
Thank you very much, we are glad you enjoyed whats there! :)
Another very cool and creative entry! I have to commit more to my themes! Everything here ties together very well! The minimap was a nice addition as well. Very much needed
Edit: Oh and very good use of a hexagonal grid. It fit the clunky turning of a diving suit and added variation and much needed shape to the land. With squares it wouldn't have been as smooth
Thank you very much! :)
Was thinking about making it even slower, but it would've been a pain to play then lol
cute little diver, I love it the controls were a bit unorthodox but still felt really good to play with a bit more polish and content this could be a cool little game on steam, well done !
Thank you!! <3
I'm biased against hexes, but the art and the sounds are on point. The intro is a nice idea, a bit too abstract for me, but I like what it's trying to do. There's lots of nice polishes on the UI that I really like. What's here is good, hope to see more content in the future.
Thank youu :)
The intro was done by me, so its sadly no comparison to the other art we used and doesn't really match haha
The hexagonal grid is an interesting change, I really like the theme and the sprites. Not sure about what the flashbang from the intro means but it sure has a vibe
Thanks for the feedback :)
The intro was supposed to show your final moments in a submarines airlock before stepping into the dungeon. I totally agree though that it can be a bit confusing!
This is a really solid foundation for a dungeon-crawler, and I hope you're able to continue to work on the game. The game's visual presentation and sprite work is fantastic and the effort you put into the player character's model is self-evident. Having an underwater theme helps make the game stand out immensely too. Lots of great little touches, including the slowly-revealing minimap in the UI , and a terminal output to show events. The hexagonal grid works well, although it took a moment to adjust to turning then moving - I wonder if pairing directional arrows, or mouse direction, might make things flow a little smoother and faster? Awesome potential here to expand on this but had fun crushing crabs with an anchor and exploring the depths nonetheless. Great work!
Thank you very much! :) I only heard great things about your game and am excited to get it in my queue :D
Also we were thinking about adding other movement input, where you choose directions with a "hexagon on your keyboard" (e.g. WEADYX for QWERTZ keyboard)!
Yeah! I tried making a hexagonal game recently and that was my plan of attack with the controls (i.e. North is W, Northeast is W+D). A mouse or gesture based approach is probably better though. That said, if you're going down a turn-based strategy approach, keeping the current direction is probably a good idea!
I love the graphics, reminds me of old jar port of civilization five. Movement is cool, would be nicer if you could order the diver to move multiple cells at once. Crabs suck, all my homies hate crabs
Maybe you'll like them better once we add Mr Krabs sound effects :b Thanks for checking out the game <3
I have never before played a game where I rotate with the QE but move using the mouse button.
Very...unique, but feels somewhat shallow.
