Dear god the color puzzle is impossible for me, xD
Very good game, I love the artstyle and, even if it feels a bit clunky, it's very charming. I loved it, you could probably even publish this on Steam or on the App Store :D! Good job!!
thank you for the feedback; it’s so helpful to know which puzzles are too difficult/easy for players. I added a hint system for the later puzzles, but I probably should’ve added hints for that one too! :-)
after polishing it up, I would love to publish it, so thanks for the encouragement!
I love the art style of the game, it's so simple but unique, it kinda feels nostalgic and I don't know why, but I like it. The puzzles are really well made, and the game has a story behind that is really appreciated. A goated game tbh, giving it a great rating :)
thank you - that's so nice to hear! it's interesting that we both used techniques that created a retro look (my 'dithered' images and your amazing replication of the VHS look), and some of our story elements are similar. (I'm being nonspecific to avoid spoilers. :-) I admired your game for treating its subject matter with so much thoughtfulness. Mine only uses it as a plot device, but yours is actually very insightful.)
Absolutely amazing. I love puzzles in real life, and I am an escape room lover. All these puzzles are really well-made and fun (and some are really challenging, ngl). I love the graphics and the visual style a lot. Overall, this game easily earns full marks from me in every aspect.
By the way, it has that older 2D vibe, like Fallout 1 and 2. Could you share a rough idea of how you achieved this kind of retro look and texture? Thanks!
the retro look was partly achieved out of necessity - i was trying out some software with a very limited colour palette and my graphics, when imported directly, looked pretty rough. it was suggested that i could dither the images before importing them, so i used a website called Dither It which allowed me to specify which colours I needed. I still don't fully understand how dithering works, but i love the look!
I just checked out Dither It and it's amazing. I've always wondered what the proper term for ''that effect'' was (the one we see in so many cool visuals and modern art), and now I know from their examples that it's called error diffusion. That effect alone can give a game a strong artistic identity. Thank you for sharing this!
Really cool setup. Definitely frying my tired mind but I enjoyed it! Good work!
thanks! i'll check out Fabled Footy right now - it looks impressive!
