How does your game represent "Slick"?
Inspired by the way Gene Wilder struts around in Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, and the way Gene Kelly dances in the finale of An American in Paris. Two Genes. That's a coincidence. Feels good to dance in a group to choreography, right? Ginger Rogers, Fred Astaire…looking pretty slick out there.

Cool idea for a rythm game, was a bit difficult for me

Developer

Thanks for playing! How far did you get?

Submitted(+1)

Only to the section where three arrows were next to each other in the bottom left, in total 5 arrows.

After getting used to the movement, I had a blast! Really fun idea.

Thanks so much!

Very cool idea. I love the visuals. I had a little bit of trouble with the timing, but the dynamic music shifts were really fun. Nice work!

Developer(+1)

Thank you!

This is really sweet! I had to read the comments before I understood that you didn't need to stand on the things but you just needed to hit the direction the dot is on. I think a big reason why this trips people up is because the first one is timed such that you can perfectly step on the footprints to the beat so it teaches you the wrong thing. Once I understood the idea it was super fun! I wish there were more rooms, I was just getting into it ^^

I think the art is actually incredible. It has a really great style. I think the next room animation is super slick. I think this one is a little gem and I think you could do a lot more of this.

Well done!

Developer

Thank you so much! I’m feeling inspired to flesh this out after the jam :)

More UI could have been a game changer, but I felt the groove and danced my way to the finish line. Thanks !

Developer(+1)

I definitely gambled with minimalism on this one, but I’m glad you liked it! Thanks for playing!

Tough but groovy rhythm game! I think it did not feel intuitive because the window to register an input is too tight, which made me think that I was missing something. I love how the music gets more complex the further you get, and the inputs get more complex too!

Developer(+1)

Totally, I wish I spent more time finessing that window. Glad you liked the progression of the music, that was my favorite part haha. Thanks for playing!

Managed to make it to the end, funnily enough I didn’t quite understand how it worked until the last room, I think. I was trying to hit the feet directions on the beat, but it seems like you need to be holding in the direction when the dot flies over, which is actually more forgiving but wasn’t intuitive to me. Definitely an interesting take on a rhythm game. Love how the music evolves as you progress.

Developer(+1)

Thanks for playing! You’re right, it’s just tracking whether you’re moving in the given direction at the point when the dot passes over the icon. I tried to signal this with the way the NPCs were moving but it could definitely be more obvious. It would also probably be an improvement if you hit the correct moving direction after the beginning of the step, but before the start of the next one. Things to think about for some eventual return to this idea :)

I love the art style of this game! The dancing mechanics were very unique.

Super unique game! I don't think I have ever played a rhythm game quite like this before!

The first open zone rythm game.
Is fun!

Developer

Thanks for playing!

Nice work, the game did a good job in quickly teaching you how to play as well!

Developer

Thank you!

this is da slickest game I've played today

Developer(+1)

Well I love to hear that!

Loved the presentation, big fan of how the music progresses as you complete each section.  Good idea to use the other characters at the beginning to teach you what you need to do.

Developer

Thanks so much!

I really liked the presentation of this game as well as the interesting take on the theme. I struggled to understand how exactly to play and progress, specifically at the part where there was 5 footsteps in a circle with one person stepping in and out.

I appreciated the hop-right-in gameplay, but could have used a bit more handholding, at least early on. A cool idea though!

Developer

I really debated how much to explain (or not explain). Did you make it to the final area? Thanks for playing!

classic, really makes you feel slick

Developer

Thanks! Glad you think so :)
