How does your game represent "Slick"?
Slick movement and a new spin on 6dof combat as a riff on Zone of the Enders or Gundam style gameplay but with more freedom. Features homebrew WebGPU cloud shaders, Havok physics in BabylonJS, draft ace mecha pilot movement and fighting system.

This is a rough skeleton with a lot of features missing, out of time. Will keep updating to get sounds and powers, enemies, bosses, assets, dialog, music, etc in. Sorry I tried!!! Bugs bit me at the end to get the boss and more weapons and enemies in. There is a lot here that's tested and optimized (about 40K lines of original code, wow!) and this demo is not representative. My intent is to make a dozen or so levels once the kinks are ironed out. The system can handle hundreds of entities and thousands of bullets so the idea will be a sort of zero G bullet hell with some nice dodging and lock on features to keep it smooth, which you can get a feel for already even lacking a lot of polish.

When it's done, I guarantee it'll be something you've never played before. I will make this the embodiment of the Bomberman Hero 64 soundtrack iykyk

I know you said the demo isn't representative, but damn you've done heaps for a jam entry. I really loved the trippy visuals, moving around felt smooth. There's so many enemies and bullets coming at you that the game feels really engaging and intense. Great work :)

Developer

Thank you for your kind words!!! I'm cookin!!!

Obviously there is a decent amount missing here, but what was here I found to be surprisingly polished. It was  a little hard to tell how fast you're moving and in what direction, but that's something you can address in the future. even if it's just some particles the whoosh by. Bomberman Hero-esque music will be a 10/10 choice though. Nice job!

Developer

Hell yeah man! Motion graphics is high on the list, been rewriting the entire animation system for 2 weeks so it's all on batch protocols just to get more shit on screen haha, that is inbetween graduate midterms. Cheers m8! I'm looking forward to showcasing the whole thing, including a bunch more shaders.

Holy cow that was intense! I was exactly sure what I was doing, but I blasted some floating orbs for sure. The environment was a bit nauseating, but I really enjoyed the movement and presentation.

Developer

Thanks! Yeah the clouds are a bit over the top in this haha it's very intense to look at, I have a whole mixing system for them so I'll be able to make a lot of variations.

SO COOL! Love the look and feel. The core movement and shooting feels really great.

Developer

Thanks! V0.1 incoming haha, this is like V0.01

This is so cool that it's your own WebGL shaders and logic! Really ambitious, and the abstract geometries and movement really do make it seem like it could be a wholly unique experience when some of the bugs are worked out and some music and sfx are added. Would love to see how this progresses!

Yes thank you! I'm working my butt off on finishing a vertical slice!!

A very promising start! I can definitely feel the appeal of bobbing and weaving through torrents of bullets. You have put together a thoughtful control scheme that feels good to play. Well done!

Developer

Thank you so much! I'm excited to keep refining it until it really hits.

Good concept, would love to see this finished!

On the job!

There’s a lot that’s impressive here, but as it stands it’s more a tech demo than a game right now. Not being able to aim while shooting is pretty rough, but there’s a ton of potential here.

Developer(+1)

Thanks for checking it out. RE not being able to aim while shooting, are you talking about the player turn radius limiting when you lock a target? It's probably too small of a radius right now but the bullets will shoot down the line off the nose cone. Anyway yeah, def in a tech demo state :-) Already made a lot of improvements since last night but this will probably take another week to get to a good state.

So maybe it’s just web build jank, but on keyboard and mouse I wasn’t able to controll my camera at all while shoooting with left click. It makes the game feel a little stiff especially with how much you have to lead in your shots.

Developer(+1)

I'll have to look into that, these browsers all behave wacky with their control schemes on different systems so the pointer lock was probably overriding your mouse somehow. Was amazed it even ran as I had so much debug crap still like on the cloud shaders making it unnecessarily heavy.

No worries man, if you took a look at the code for my game you’d probably have a hearty attack and die on the spot lol

I appreciate the work with WebGPU as a graphics guy - and it looks like you have some cool boid systems too. It would be awesome to play a feature complete version

Developer

Thanks for checking it out!! I'll be updating it when the files unlock to the hopefully finished demo if these bugs stop torturing me. Every time I upgrade something all the old bugs come back since they were edge cases in the first place haha.
