CORPSE TALK LIVE DAY 3 Reviews

Since I didn't have time to enter this year, I can't do a traditional vote, but I can comment and take the time to go over some of the popular favorites and my own. Go back and polish this for Shadowdark, and I think you could have something really different from all the other adventures. The mechanic to roll up your map with a few tweaks could be a great new game mode!

Definitely looks like NES game art! I love the Items page and your Mecha-Man.  He's cool, a really fun monster.

Developer

Thank you very much.

Inspiration: You nailed it. The three NES games you drew have their DNA all through this adventure.

Usability: The presentation of the material is well thought out and intuitive. Legibility isn't ideal, especially on page 3. But with fewer words or more pages to fill out (not an option for this jam, unfortunately, but maybe after the ratings are done?) I think the general idea of the layout would work really well at the table.

Vibes: This is the very definition of "8-bit" all the way. The premise and the art (including the headers) beautifully reinforce the vibes and would easily telegraph to my players what the expectations are in terms of gameplay. A perfect gonzo adventure.

Developer

I think, the most pointed out problem and only problem was the legibility and I knew this would happen and I hated it. I had so much to add and so little page space and some wording could be fixed. It felt half baked in its current state in my opinion and so I will continue to expand upon this adventure after the game jam.  Thank you for reviewing Super Ballsy Gauntlet!

exceptional vibes and clearly inspired by the prompts. absolutely jam packed with content. I appreciate the more theater of the mind style play of this module and I think this is a great multi-session experience for a table trying to navigate and ultimately defeat the boss despite all of the perils and pitfalls.

Thank you for reviewing, I designed this to be Table-Savvy and not Table-Ready to really have GMs have good amount of input and interaction of creativity, versatility, and, improvisation well having a good foundation than running a linear module with every single decision and themes laid out which may alienate certain GMs. I have planned to expand after the game jam.

The vibes and art are immaculate. The layout is decent but coupled with the content is completely overwhelming on page 4 and 5. After spending some time with it, I digested it. You got a whole ass mini-game for running the dungeon and its really cool! I can tell you thought alot about all the mechanics and how they fit together. Excellent submission, bravo!

Developer

I would have added more but yeah I was completely over my head for how much content I made, especially on page four and five I was cramming it in. Thank you.

loved the pixel art and room layouts as presented. block box cover was a nice touch

formatting wasn't ideal; centre justified type is hard to read and yeah, I know were going for 80s nostalgic typefaces and colours, but it's a bit hard on the eyes to spend alot of time reading.

but again the inspiration and the setup to the story were awesome

Yeah the small text formatting wasn't for the '80s aesthetic but it was because of space limitations. I just wish I had more space to fit more of what I wanted to do which would be even more than 8 pages. The placing of the text is also by product of space limitation, trying to squish all into only 8 page was extremely hard due to my ambitious and loaded vision but thank you overall for reviewing my game.

I feel you. but what a great excecise this was.

I really like the procedural nature of generating each level, making it truely feel like a replayable gauntlet. It is a little overtuned, but all the ideas are there and solid. Just reads a bit complicated in the small amount of space, but a lot of that can be attributed to the restrictions of the jam. The art absolutely rules, you did such a great job! I love the cowboy mini boss with the 6 shooter "fan the hammer" attack! The vibes are immaculate.

Developer

Thank you so much, Mecha-Man Maverick is a reference to my own name and I wanted to put an Easter egg to that but also make a gun mini-boss to reference Rush'n Attack. I have so much I wanted to do that I over did what I wanted to do. I have a Google doc that is like 25 pages long just with brainstorming features and ideas. I just chose the most simplest out of them, thank you for reviewing. I will try to streamline it after the jam or even expand upon it.

I like the map generation, random yet finite to get to the end of the level. The art and layout is very reminiscent of early NES games, especially page 3.

Developer

Thank you very much, I hope to update and develop the map generator after the game jam. The art and layout was due to time limit and I will also update it after the jam. Hope you enjoy playing this wacky dungeon.
